Are the Jets for real or are they going to crash and burn?

To answer your question: Neither. They aren't the world beaters as the standings are suggesting, but they aren't chumps either. Last night against the Avs would have been lost if it weren't for Hellebuyck. Games will tip the other way. They'll just regress to the mean which is probably slightly above average.

Just posted this in the Winnipeg forum: The 2007-08 Senators were the last ones to go 13-1-0 at the start of the season. Three weeks later they were already 16-7-3, played .500 hockey for the rest of the season and finished with 94 points, which is exactly where the Jets would land with a .500 pace from here. I expect the Jets to do a little bit better, but not much.
That Senators is a massive outlier for teams that have gotten off to hot starts. Weird that people only bring them up

I realize we're still 6 games away from 20, but even if the Jets go 3-3 and start 16-4, they're still way up there on this list

Edit: no way the Jets go .500 for the rest of the season with Helle

I mean, the Jets were clearly the better team throughout the first two periods. You have to think Avs' 3rd period surge was mostly down to the score effects.
Not from what I saw. The Avs started taking the game over in the early parts of the 2nd period and were clearly the better team in the 3rd.

Heck of a team with plenty of good pieces. Enough to get to the SCF for sure. They are going to have to prove it before I am a believer, though. Wishing them the best. It would be great to see them perform lights-out in the playoffs.

The playoff picture couldve gone differently last year had our coach done things differently. Why didnt we give brossoit any playoff games? Why did we sit Miller? It was infuriating to watch in real time. Lotsa people doubted Arniel when he stepped up but compared to bones he isnt a stickler. Bones tried to force too many things out of this team and got them to play bones style hockey. So we'll see what Arniel cooks when we start losing games. That will shed more light on whether this team is for real or not. Even last night we saw a line blender which put us back in the game for the last half. Bones wouldve just yelled at the team and kept it the way it is, lol.

For a Dude that's been a Jets fan all his life i'm just thoroughly enjoying this start to the season . 13-1 to start the season just doesn't happen very often .

Will this run continue all season ? Nope !
Am I worried about that? Nope !
As a Jets Fan since Bobby signed at Portage and Main, I'm just kicking back and enjoying it.

I'm as big of a Landeskog fan as a non-Avs fan can be. One of my claims to fame is that he once scored a hat trick on me. But calling him one of your top 9 forwards at this point is probably being hopeful to the point of ignoring reality.

Jets are a really good team, who I think will hang with the best teams in the nhl. Are they this much better than everyone over the course of the season, probably not.

This start does matter though. 17 points ahead of Nashville, who I thought would be near the top of the division is almost insurmountable already.

Really? Highest scoring team in the league ATM.

I think a big, mean mobile RHD in the top 4 is what is needed most. Like almost every team in the league.
The Jets could also really use an upgrade at 2c. Namestnikov is filling is quite admirably, but just does not have the hands or high offensive IQ to go along with Ehlers and Perfetti. Although I do agree that a top 4 RHD, tough as nails, stay at home D man comes first.

They will obviously not continue on a 13-1 pace the rest of the season, but will still probably win the division. They need to fix their defense corps, though, if they want to make Cup runs. Demelo, Pionk, and Stanley have never really inspired confidence when the Playoffs are going on. Their forward depth and starting goaltending, though, are arguably one of, if not, the best in the league.

Most games that the Jets play vs the Avs will look something like this. They have the 2nd best forward on the planet ant the best defenceman. We can't compete with that

For us to beat a team like the Avs, we can't do it best vs best. We need to rely on our depth beating the Avs depth and Helle being Helle. We got neither of those last spring, but we got enough of it last night to pull it off (although our top line DID with their matchup in terms of actual goals)

Standard logic among hockey fans:
  • The Oilers play like dog vomit and lose a bunch of games - "Don't worry, they'll get better, still the odds-on favourite to win the Cup, who cares about a few games?"
  • The Jets go 13-1, but get outplayed in their most recent game, which they still won - "Fakes! It's an illusion! They got outplayed in one game, they suck, they can't beat anyone!"
You do all realize how stupid this sounds, I hope?

Enjoy the ride for what it is. Yes, the playoffs are a totally different beast. But enjoy when your team wins. It's really hard to finish best out of 32.

Come on that was in 2018 which is going to be 7 seasons ago. That is an eternity in the NHL, this current Jets team is not the team that did that. It is a completely different core and coaching staff. They haven't proven anything. I'm not even talking smack this is just facts.

Hellebuyck, Connor, Ehlers, Scheifele, Lowry and Morrissey are all still around from that team. It's not the same core but arguably the biggest parts of that core remain outside of Wheeler, Trouba and Buff.
