Ever since Luke was drafted by New Jersey, fans have speculated that Quinn wouldn't be opposed to playing with the Devils as well. Of course, it's just that... speculation. Quinn has never stated publicly his preference is to team up with his brothers, however, it's easy to see why such a move would be appealing not only to him, but the entire Hughes family...

But are the Devils interested in Quinn Hughes?

We know he's offensively gifted, but given his struggles defensively, would New Jersey give up the assets to acquire him if he could be had at fair market value?

If so, what do you think a fair market trade would look like?

Smith + Severson for Hughes

But unless the Devils are comfortable pairing Quinn with Hamilton or his brother and having two OFD on the same pairing, not sure there is a fit.

You know who this move would not be appealing to? Vancouver.

The actual question is: “Are the Canucks interested in trading Hughes to New Jersey (or anywhere)?”

Because if the answer is “no”, it doesn’t really matter what Jack and Luke and the Devils think. I’m sorry but “appealing to the Hughes family” is not a reason to trade Quinn Hughes. Or to trade for him, if we are being honest.

Devils should be interested but doubtful Vancouver is. What would the cost even be to acquire Quinn? I imagine quite a bit starting with Ty Smith.
Thats the problem - Ty and Jack have become best friends it seems

Obviously Jack would love Quinn here but I doubt hed enjoy Ty going the other way

I think all 3 of Hughes want to play together, I think Quinn Hughes will play in Vancouver for 4-5 years and when he is a UFA(he will structure his contract that way), he will go to the Devils. By that time the Devils should be contenders.

The one thing I would say about his defensive struggles are that the entire Canucks team was awful defensively last year…. He had zero support and they got caved in regularly…. So I don’t think he’s bad defending at all, I just think it’s more indicative of the whole squad not just him…

His entire game is based on pick possession, I think with a much stronger forward group (Dickenson and Garland) and removing the Beagles and Eriksson who could exit the zone that you will see a much stronger Hughes….

Brad Shaw as coach should also help….

package for Hughes starts with Ty Smith and Nolan Foote…

keep in mind he’s already the best ever Canucks d man and has shattered several scoring records for his age…

holy christ, no. i would consider signing him as a UFA depending on what our defense looks like in 5 years, but i'm not giving up anything of value to acquire him in a trade.

Id be opposed to it, as Hughes is pretty important to us. But if had to:

To Vancity: Smith, 2022 1st, 2023 2nd

To NJ: Hughes, Pearson, 2023 5th round pick

What are the expectations for Foote at the NHL level once he reaches his prime?

Oh, look, another Hughes to New Jersey thread. Has anything changed since the last 30 threads?

OP you didn't put a pun in the thread title. May I suggest "Hughes Team Is It Anyway(Q.Hughes to NJ)"?

Anyway back on topic, yes. Yes they would be. Something like Smith + Bratt + 2nd might get it done.

Nope

So no, nothing has changed. Thank you to Devils fans for showing interest, I know the OP isn't one of you, but I see no reason to move Hughes what so ever. Benning's stupid as hell, but he has almost 14 million before Motte is on the LTIR for Hughes and Pettersson. If he can't get something done, every school system he's been a part of needs to be sued back to the stone age for graduating him, because no one that stupid should be allowed through.

More than the Devils want to pay, this has been beaten to death, the Canucks and Devils make horrible trading partners.
Agree. Devils GM has been clear he wants to build around the young players he has. Hopefully some young Devils players earn some big contracts in the next 4-5 years and adding a high paid player is not even an option

Agree. Will never understand the HFB obsession with having siblings play together or constantly discussing trading players that are not on the market.
