Probably going to get flammed for this but here it goes:

Severson for Xhekaj

Devils need snarl (not geertsen)…two devils scouts at the game last night…WiFi is on a team friendly deal for one more year and will be an RFA…severson walks this off-season with current cap & pipeline

Montreal added some wiggle room with LTIR money with injury announcement and gives them a too Dman

Thoughts?

no just no why the hell would the Habs trade him? Why the hell would the Habs want a guy that is a UFA and the end of this year and like 7-8 years older? This just makes no sense at all. And what wiggle room do the Habs need under the cap? Like really?

Montreal is rebuilding and likes Xhekaj. Why on earth would they move him for a veteran rental?

Montreal probably wont move him barring an overpay, but you could have at least offered a prospect, its not like the Devils have a weak prospect pool, there's plenty of guys there.

thats why its phrased as finding the value of...severson could be flipped for a first or some other assets...those are assets the devils dont need right now

Massive yikes!

As a Devils fan I'd say absolutely where do I sign?
Montreal doesn't even consider if for a second.

For Montreal to even think about it, they'd want players like, L Hughes, Nemec or Mercer
Indeed. And IMO i like Mercer, but with how deep the draft is at the F position vs D this year, it makes no sense to trade WiFi for him. We'd need a young D coming back

Ya I was speaking more in terms of value as opposed to need.
Mercer is the kind of player NJ will want in the playoffs as well, so it wouldn't really make sense to trade him either.
This is a massively flawed OP that doesn't take anything into consideration other than 1 fans desire to have a certain player on their favorite team.

IMO the Devils would be better off going for a Gudas like player, he'd bring the hate but wouldn't cost the farm.

No disrespect intended, but Arber is already a fan favourite, standing up for his teammates. He is a bright spot in another tanking season.

He’s only 21, a perfect age in the rebuild cycle with the young, skilled core. Plenty of time to improve his game.

He’s a unicorn - toughness which can play effectively & not be a liability.

It’s worth tuning in to watch the Habs because of him.

As some have mentioned, there are many other realistic trade targets, but I appreciate the concept of throwing ideas out there for discussion.

Young tough mobile D who is just scratching the surface who most think is a 5/6 Dman. However he has a unique skill set that is hard to find. Who knows what his potential is? Could he be a #4 and run the PP on 2nd wave? Work on developing a heavier shot from point? He has shown flashes and is still learning the NHL game. No way Mtl gives up on him unless the return is a grand slam. This is not a Denny's grand slam we are talking about lol. I see a younger version of Weber with more mobility. He has a lot to work on but he is going to surprise a lot of people. He has the passion, drive and work ethic. Way too early to give up on him.

Then offer a first or some other of those assets that the Devils dont need right now... I think theres a bit of overreaction in the thread, but why would Montreal do the work of shopping Severson around in place of NJ?

Like, by trading Severson they'll be hoping to get back a Xhekaj type asset (young D) anyway

Sverson is def a weird way to spell Simon Nemec.

Cause that's what it'd take. Him or Luke Hughes, period.

thats why its phrased as finding the value of...severson could be flipped for a first or some other assets...those are assets the devils dont need right now
And that 1st would be low, and would prob bring a player that is worse than Xhekaj.

Unless Habs get a clear younger upgrade on Xhekaj, it,s a no go.

Why would Montreal do New Jersey's work for them in flipping Severson AND give up a contributing defenceman on an ELC? The whole "they can flip them for assets" way of thinking is just asinine to me. If Montreal was going to move Xhekaj why would they take the extra risk and do the extra work, and just trade him for what Severson would hopefully return?

The value is someone similar to Xhekaj on an ELC.
