Arber Xhekaj is a RFA after this season with a salary less than 1 Mil

meaning no compensation.. I dont like current situation Montreal is in.

compensation is based on the amount signed to the offer sheet. His current salary has no impact.

Fine, then speculate Montreal's offer sheet givin the rumor that teams were offering a first round pick

why speculate something that may never happen. Xhekaj needs to work on his game still, he's young and inexperienced. If he improves then the Habs will likely lock him up, if he doesn't then the Habs clearly will have some tough decisions to make in the next few years with all these D prospects they have.

he is a RFA after this year 24/25, they could have gotten a first round pick(rumor). Now it looking like a second or we pay 3.5 to 4.1 for 3/4 years

who knows how things will look before he's an RFA and what management will do then, it's anyone's guess how this will play out so it seems pointless to speculate on a possible offer sheet when almost nobody does offer sheets and who knows if Xhekaj ever makes it to RFA for it to even happen.

Is a team really going to pay Arber that much? You would think teams saw the KK spite offer and how that's panned out for the Canes and quietly back away from overinflated offers.

Yes, if the rumor is true that one or two teams offered a First round pick. Why do you think they brought him up from Laval, they have to deal with his agent and would you as his agent talk to Montreal with him in the AHL or deal with the teams that offered a first rnd pick.

Even though pro sports is occupying less and less of my brain as I get older, I do love this virtual community and I gotta say, the Arber situation bugs me. A lot.
It's an emotional response brought on by the fact we've been getting our teeth kicked in for a few decades. These rare types of players are even rarer for habs.
We all loved Nilan, Odelein , Ferguson etc...
A psycho with skill who defends his teammates at all costs, imo, is invaluable.
It's hard to unpack where all the noise is coming from. Lajoie and Hockey30 know Arber is very popular so they're happy to gaslight the fans with trade rumours about him. As per Laraque, I think he's genuinely passionate about the kid and his potential and worries St Louis, like bergevin has his own agenda (instead of journeymen, he loves the soft skilled guys). Who knows?
but it's not a secret Arber was linked to Flyers because of their history and canucks because of tocchet.
This kid was a house money acquisition. If he reaches his potential he'll be scary; if he doesn't, he's still very useful.
I can't believe the number of fans wanting to deal him for a late 1st.
Can't we draft the scoring forward and trade other dmen + picks for Zegras?
Reading between the lines when St Louis spoke Tuesday, they're concerned he was distracted with the quick, rise in his popularity, the sherif commercial and the fact he fought too much.
All of this is correctible. It's f***ing dumb to trade him.
Maybe we'll get that scoring winger, and then cry and whine again for 3 decades that we don't have that size and intimidation factor - especially against the teams that use their size and intimidate

Not a chance in hell they trade him for a late first. Hughes is not dumb. For the reasons you mentioned, trading him for what amounts to magic beans, would be a really dumb move. I just hope (and think he will), that the kid matures his game and grows as a player. There is no doubt he has the toughness and the character. Now time to take care of those rough edges.

This is my point, he is going to be an RFA after this season. If other teams tried to acquire him you have to trade him or pay him more than you would like. Given the depth of current and future D men that you also have to pay this is not ideal situation for Montreal.

Why would you have to pay him more than you would like? I think players like Harris are more expendable than Arber. How much is too much to pay him? They'll likely give him a short-term "show me" deal for around 1.5mil give or take.

RFA rules say they can offer up to 4.2 mil and Habs only get 2nd round pick in comp.
