You can add Pez to that mix, when needed. In fact, that's the only reason to keep him really

Gallagher is blocking a spot in the bottom 6 from Pezzetta :sarcasm:

I’m not so sure X would beat Lucic. The latter knows how to fight…X is mostly about wrestling and using his strength to take down his foe. You saw what happened when X squared off against VD.

It might come down to reputation. Xhekaj could have taken VD lightly but he clearly didn't with Reaves. How would he do with Lucic? Not sure because Lucic is a beast and his upper body is very strong.

Maybe in a few seasons when Xhekaj is in his prime, nobody will want to touch him like it was with Chara. There is a level of "it" factor with what Xhekaj is showing

I watched the fight and X was throwing punches like crazy. Even VD said that Xhekaj was a puncher. The toughest fighters ever have all lost and X can get caught with a good shot. I like his chances against any heavyweight in the league.

Xhekaj looked like a veteran in the Leafs game. A year ago i figured him for a fighter that can play hockey. Now, i see him as a blossoming and talented young dman who happens to be able to fight.

Xhekaj is big, strong can skate, hit and make good outlet passes and has a very good shot. He can skate the puck out of the zone when called upon. His weaknesses are gap control and quick decision making when under duress. The latter comes with experience.

Xhekaj has all the tools to become a 2nd pairing dman.

Dream scenario is he turns into a less injury prone Souray.

My dream scenario is he turns into a Chara. Big body with a long reach and punishes you with physicality. Chips in on offense here and there and has good goal scoring power from the back end. Your dreams are not set high enough ;). Yeah, I know... Chara is a big dream

Xhekaj's development as an undrafted player is an anomaly. Rare but it happens from time to time. There is no real weakness to his overall game IMO. And he just keeps proving doubters wrong... has done this for a few seasons now

Interesting comparison but feel like no one can be Chara without being 6'9"... Don't think Arber getting any more rangy than 6'3"/6'4" lol. He had a specialized stick only allowed because of his height.

Not really. We had Anderson, Chiarot.
Anderson is not a guy you want fighting, once in while to blow off steam but he's not a fighter. You're right about Chiarot, forgot about him. But you still don't want him fighting clowns like Reeves. Xhekaj is just a class level above in terms of brawling.

Xhekaj shouldn't fight clowns like Reaves either.

Anderson fought Lucic, Benn, Olivier, Borowieckie and Wilson and fared well against all. In fact, hes a better fighter tham Chiarot. Just always injured and turning soft because of injuries.

Mini Chara... No two players will ever be the same.

Anyways, I'm moving on from this... the nit picker fans will come out. "there is no way he will be as good as Chara". It's coming. This is how posts get twisted because they didn't see it was "dream" narrative from the start.

Fighting doesn't really send a message. It's just entertainment to me. Reaves is not going to stop hitting because Xhekaj fought him. Banging guys hard on the boards does though (clean hits).

The message we need to send is if you mess with us with borderline hits, we will bring out our bangers to hit your stars... that sends a message IMO.

This is why I like having guys like Anderson, Monahan, Savard, Xhekaj, Kova in our line-up. Those fans who think we need to trade all our vets and ice a age 25 and under roster are not thinking straight. This is not a Junior hockey rebuild. It's a pro NHL rebuild. Different

Feels so good to finally have a legit sheriff that can play 20+ minutes of quality hockey while being an intimidating presence every night. But the best thing about Xhekaj ?

Can you imagine if Florian becomes a decent fourth liner?! Arber’s progression curve has been mind blowing over the past two years. If Florian progresses at half that rate, we would literally have the Bang Bros on our team in the not so distant future!

In his final year in the OHL, Xhekaj scored 6 goals with Kitchener , 6 goals with Hamilton after he was traded and 6 more goals in the playoffs that year. When you add that production to his 5 goals that he scored as a rookie in only 51 games, where he played limited minutes, you can see that this kid is more than your usual budding NHL enforcer. The fact that Xhekaj is now on the team's second power play, indicates that the coaches see and understand this kid's offensive potential. I suspect we will soon start seeing NHL scouts hanging around Costco more frequently now and it won't be for their tasty hot dogs.

Whether it sends a message or not to me is is irrelevant. If you're gonna hit and play physical then you're gonna have to fight. It sends more a message to our own players if anything at all that we got somebody who's got you're back. I'm not even concerned about the opposition. All I know is the Atlantic is loaded with guys that can fight and play dirty.

In the case of last game vs Leafs, fighting Reeves was warranted 1000%.
No stage fight etc...Reeves hit dirty,Xhekaj stood up to him and
hit Reeves with a short upper cut right hand as Reeves had his head tucked down,
holding on with both his hands onto Xhekaj jersey around his waist ...
Right after that punch Reeves brought his head up and Xhekaj clocked him
again with a over hand right....Reeves was stunned no question in my mind.
Xhekaj had Reeves by both shoulders started lifting upward as he was pushing
him up the ice, Reeves was going backward ready to fall down(backwards) ...then
he hit the net and fell down.

If any goon takes a run at a star player like Guhle (and Arbers good buddy), that's exactly the time you want him to fight, IMO. It's the stupid faceoff joust to instigate where Arber should pick his spots.

The words of Xhekaj a day or so ago after the Leafs game .

Xhekaj also promised to answer the bell in the future whenever his services are needed.

“If it needs to be done, I’ll be there.”

Xhekaj is a good hockey player. He skates well, hits hard, gets an eye to see the line where to shut the puck from the blue-line, can carry the puck , is big, strong, can fight yeah...

Because all those good things, i largely prefer him to be on the ice instead of to sit in the penalty box for 5-10 minutes. Most of the players know him now, so it's time for him to slow down with the fights. He's too good and every time he's fighting someone, he could be injured. I am against that.

He definitely needs to pick the fights carefully. I think going against Reeves was calculated and will pay off in the long term. He already has a noticable reputation in the league after a season and a game. He probably won't be fighting plugs who are one week call ups. He's invested a lot to earn the respect warranted for people not to take liberties on young players on the Habs, meaning half the team lol. Honestly tho, there are probably only like 3-4 guys in the league that are worth fighting that can stand up to xhekaj. The rest would crap their pants if he went into their vacinity
