If they want to shut down Matthews that bad then have Marner, O'Rielly, Tavares and Nylander away from Matthews so we can take advantage. Matthews can play with guys like Kerfoot and Jarnkrok if needed and still be effective. This way Cooper actually has to coach and think about line matching. We make it too easy by letting him have 1 shutdown line to shutdown both our best offensive weapons. Same thing happened in that Montreal series with Danault and for some reason Keefe wouldn't change it up.

Because everyone on this city and fanbase has more passion than Matthews, Marner, Tavares and Nylander. The GM. The kids playing street hockey on the side street. Everyone on the radio. Leafs alumni. The trainer. The deadline acquisitions. Everyone.

Everyone just thinks they'll show up and put up a normal amount of effort, but get up in a series, late in a series, have a chance to do something special, they just check out and play deadhead.

Some games it's not wise to over play Matthews on those nights he just doesn't have it. Unfortunately tonight is one of those nights. He's got to shake that shit off and earn that time like the rest of them.
