Apparently Hughes turned down Cutter Gauthier for 2023 5th OA

Probably the more interesting question is if we responded with asking Philly to throw in the #22 pick that they had from the Provorov trade.

Gauthier + 22nd for 5th would start to be interesting for the Habs.
I would have prefered to use that and a 3rd for newhook instead of the 2 picks we did.

Gauthier is looking like the next PLD, clearly has some attitude issue, it can be seen on the ice as well.

As for Gauthier for Reinbacher, easy no.
How about Reinbacher and Hutson for 1st overall (Celebrini)??

We still have Engstrom, Mailloux, Xhekaj as legit prospects at D

Nope Im not trading Reinbacher personally. Not a big fan of trade proposals anyway since thats only hypothetical and basically never happens. There is like 0,1% chance the team drafting 1st OV trades the pick.

I would trade Reinbacher for Michkov and Gauthier. Yes.

Edit: assuming the rumour of 5 to 7 swap AND Gauthier was true.

Nowadays..to get the first overall pick like Celebrini you would have to give...

Hutson

And.....

Suzuki... no kidding....and even then I am really not sure that SJ of the Hawks would accept it

first overall pick are untouchable .

My initial response was no way American Boy Cutter Gauthier would sign with us

Then I realized his last name was Gauthier, and that Philly engaged 18-20 teams that he was willing to sign with.

Very likely he was willing to sign with us.
Nah. That still leaves 12-14 teams he was not willing to sign with. More likely all Canadian teams were a no go.
And he's starting to show too many red flags. Glad he is not the Habs problem.

I don’t like this new generation of players that are entitled. I think the GM’s need to start standing up to them before it gets worse. Gauthier should have no say in where he goes as a teenaged RFA. We had Michkov interviewing the draft like he was one year away from being a UFA as well. Players shouldn’t be able to bully the organization that drafts them. They’re restricted FA’s for a reason.

That’s illegal in a democratic society. Does an 18 year old (adult) not have a right to work where they so choose?

Market based economics - Gauthier, Fox et al did not bully anyone only stated their desire not to play for the drafting org. How many people quit jobs for better paying remote jobs during Covid? Should that have been banned also?

I don’t think kids getting paid millions of dollars to play hockey is comparable to people having to rearrange their lives for the safety of themselves and their families during a pandemic. The NHL has rules put in place to help markets acquire and keep talent for a certain period of time with the draft. It’s not a big issue now, but in my opinion If you get to many kids dictating where they will and won’t play right out of the draft, it could cause problems down the road for franchises that players view as less desirable. But that may be an overreaction on my part.

You realize that if even half the players starts doing that, the draft would have absolutely zero meaning rand some organization would be forced to close shop.

Sure they have the rights to do that, but the league also has the rights to not allowed it.

Yup - except for MAYBE Leafs every other Cdn org would like get wiped out…true, but supply & demand will run its course, it’s up to the orgs to become innovative to survive & thrive

Why not? Hockey is the “kids” profession, why is that any different than a university grad lucking out working for Google, Amazon or other tech company.

These “kids” are the elite of the elite in the profession they’ve chosen - simple laws of supply & demand economics

I don’t think Cutter Gauthier falls into the elite of the elite category. Guys that haven’t done anything at the NHL level shouldn’t have that much power. They really shouldn’t have any power at all. I feel like the NHL is pretty generous now with when they allow players to hit unrestricted free agency. If the city isn’t working for you, getting to walk in your mid 20’s doesn’t seem bad at all.

For his draft class being picked in top-10 deems you as being amongst the elite of your age group as determined by professional scouts…

If a “kid” graduated amongst top 1% of their class in school that “kid” is elite amongst his/her peers, this is no different.

so yes Gauthier falls into elite category amongst his age group .

Now will that elite status translate to NHL level? I dunno, time will tell, if he doesn’t the market will adjust accordingly…

I love this, we had a 200 page thread with everyone wanting to sign him. I was almost alone when I said no thank you, but now everyone is talking about PLD’s issues because he signed somewhere else. You should have my username because you are BrhindTheTimes.
Alot of people did NOT want PLD on this team though it wasent as unanimous as you make it seem. That said I agree with you that ALOT of posters absolutely wanted PLD and were even willing to give up assets for him to accelerate the rebuild :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh: I consider them all complete nincompoops that don't know their hockey. I am ready to separate the boards into two categories after that thread honestly

Cant predict the future but still have PTSD from the Sergachev (highly touted D that hasn't played in the NHL) for Drouin (a winger who seems to have "toxic" attitude).

Don't get me wrong
Caufield - Suzuki - Slaf
XXX - Dach - Gauthier

does sound enticing but I think I'd pass if the price was Reinbacher
