Anze Kopitar (MOD WARNING Post #52)

Maybe they can get some type of package that can net the Kings a modern day return of Roman Vopat, Patrice Tardif, and Craig Johnson. Sad reality is that is exactly what the Kings of the 90s and early 2000s would do, they would let Kopitar get to his UFA year, insult him with a ridiculous offer, then trade him for scraps.

Thankfully Lombardi is on top of retaining his core, and that won't happen with Kopitar.

J just threw up in my mouth! We got these brilliant players for a guy named Gretzky!

He looked like absolute trash for a number of games then magically looked better nearly overnight. Would be a strange thing. Not out of the realm of possibility i guess.

Even when a player is healed it takes time to get the timing back and for certain actions to feel normal/natural.

Not saying Kopitar was injured, but again, there's a lot fans either overlook or pretend to know.

I agree. Like i said, not out of the realm of possibility, but it's usually more gradual. But definitely empathize with the 'timing coming back' aspect of those things too.

I throw up even more when it was reported that Pronger was in the orginally deal, and I believe the Kings declined that deal.

Supposedly his name was springing up in the early stages of trade discussions around November-December from what I recall. Pronger was struggling quite a bit but turned things around and became their most relied upon dman. McMaster claims that they were never close to getting Pronger.

Another rumor at the time had Gretzky going to NY for a package that included Luc returning to LA with Norstrom and other pieces. Funny enough they struck a similar deal with the Rangers when they sent Kurri and McSorley there.

They got a lump of coal for Gretzky but they made up for it with the Norstrom, Laperriere, Ferraro, LaFayette and picks return they got, then a year later they'd bend the Rangers over again when they reacquired Luc for Kevin Stevens.

Look at the list of #1 centers the Kings had until Kopitar's arrival: from Gretzky to Khristich to Stumpel to Allison and Craig Conroy. We then entered the Kopitar era in 2006 and six years later won their first Cup.

This season, Kopitar has had 3 games where he got more than 2 points. He got 1 goal and 11 points in those games. That's 11 goals and 34 points in the other 56 games. Last year, 4 games with more than 2 points, with 4 goals and 12 points in those games. That left 25 goals and 58 points in the other 78 games.

56GP, 11G, 23A, 34Pts = 16G, 34A, 50Pts in 82 games
78GP, 25G, 33A, 58Pts = 26G, 35A, 61Pts in 82 games

With 33 overall assists so far this season, he's actually averaging more assists per game than he was last year. The goals are obviously way down. 29 in 82 games last year, on pace for about 17 in 82 games this season. He won't get to play 82 games this year, so it comes out to 16 over the 79 he can play.

Trevor Daley, Shawn Matthias, Blake Comeau, Mark Arcobello, Brian Boyle, and Benoit Pouliot all have more goals than Anze Kopitar. Thats pretty sad when you think about it.

Last Year: +34
This Year: -7

Last Year: 200 Shots on goal (third lowest total of his career)
This Year: 97 (on pace for around 130, which would be a career low by around 60 shots)

People continue to say that the whole Kopi not shooting thing has been happening for years, but his shot total this year compared to the rest of his career is drastically lower. Hell, he was getting about 230 shots on goal a year under Murray

Disgusting. I don't even know what to say.

Also the main reason I'm not overly concerned with him. He just needs to shoot more.

The Kings are a one line team, and if they happen to make the playoffs they will lose in the first round, unless Kopitar and Brown can start scoring goals. But I won't hold my breath for that.
