Anze Kopitar (MOD WARNING Post #52)

You know Jiri Hudler has more than double Kopitars points and is shooting a cool 24%. He must just have more heart than Kopitar, we should swap

I hope Kopitar demands 10.5 mil. Some people need reminding who carried the team on his back for many many years. Got snubbed out of a Conn Smyth trophy last season too. F Williams. Lovely how he gets a player thread when he sucks. I remember how other players used to get them when they were playing well. Like Kopitar has for each of the many seasons he's been with the Kings.

Right now, I sure as hell wouldn't give him $8M or $9M a season on his next deal.

Take a look at the shots on goal totals so far for this season. Guys like Clifford, Stoll, and Lewis have as many or more shots on goal as Kopitar. That's just not acceptable.

Will need to get incredible hot, like white hot , to even make 60 points forget about 70. May even end up around 55.

Wow haha.

That's the bigger problem. His shooting percentage is just under his career average, but his shots/game have been abysmal. Less than perfect stat here, but just using NHL.com, his previous shots/game were 2.73/game; this season, he's shooting 1.79 shots/game. More timid to shoot than usual. Maybe he really needs a banger like Brown or a dangler like Williams to gain more space/separation since he's so hesitant, who knows.

He's reminding me more and more of Jozef Stumpel, a guy with so much talent who could've done so much more if he asserted himself more consistently.

I also blame Gretzky for putting him on a pedestal he can't live up to. Kidding of course, but Kopitar in no way is a top 3-5 center right now.

Stick him with King and Clifford or king\nolan. Kopitar will simplify his game. May get him going.

That can be solved by the fact the Kings possession stats as a team is way down to previous years. Them having the puck less results in less shots across the board. Plus over such a small sample size. It can easily be a case of an unusually high number of his shots are being blocked

He is only like 12 shots behind last years pace

He also has the most giveaways on the team. Part of that is a function of having the puck so much, of course, and Doughty is high there too, but it's telling. Especially when last season and most previous seasons he was more than halfway down our team list.

I don't really disagree because I think it will equalize but just pointing out that he's hardly getting shots on goal. There have been several games when both him AND Gaborik didn't even get a shot in the game. That's troubling no matter what the cause (and as you mention there are plenty of good ones).

What do people want from him? For him to change his game from what has worked so well? Or for him to be more flashy to pass the eye test as opposed to playing a boring consistent game that contributes to wins

He is winning the possession battle vs top opposition. So he is doing is job

Nobody is saying trade Kopitar. Nobody forgets 46 points in 46 games in the two Cups runs combined. Nobody forgets that he was the only guy that scored those 3 goals in a 6 game span when the Kings as an entire team only scored those 3 goals. Nobody forgets that when Kopitar is going, there are few players you'd rather want, both offensively, and covering 200 feet of the ice. He is one of, if not the most pivotal players on the roster.

He also has 5 goals in his last 36 games.

The Kings are a unique team, and Kopitar is a unique player, because even with that meager goal total, the Kings have a winning record in those 36 games. It includes beating the Hawks, with 0 goals from Kopitar. It includes beating the Rangers, with 0 goals from Kopitar. I don't know how many other teams could pull that off.

Obviously we want to see more out of him and the criticism he is getting is deserved; however, this is nothing new from him. He's slumping early on in the season instead of midseason like he usually does. I have no doubt in my mind that he will get back to usual point production.

How dare to you support a player on a thread that was meant to trash him?

What kind of Kings fan are you, anyway?

Cruel wasn't trying to trash on him. Not like she made a "Let's Talk About Mike Richards For A Second..." thread.

Ew, no.

Toews and Kopitar are almost exactly the same player and when you consider how long Kopitar played on a crap team compared to Toews it's tilted towards Kopitar. The biggest difference between the two is place of birth and mythical Canadian intangibles.

He's slumping. We've been spoiled by his durability and consistency over the years. He's been due a down year for a while. As I said in the GDT, even Getzlaf has had an awful year. Think of all the time Crosby and Malkin have lost. I can't think of one player in this era who has played so much hockey and been A-Ok the entire time. He'll return to form. But yes, his play is crap right now...so easily moved off the puck, soft turnovers, etc.--this is stuff we've never seen from him and it could be anything from injury to exhaustion. Who knows. What we do know is we have lots of history that he'll get it together. In the meantime though, ugh.

Trust me, I'm the last one to defend Toews and to be honest, I think he's grossly overrated on this board (he is not better than Crosby) nor do I support him because he's Canadian, but he's a more consistent offensive player than Kopitar. Kopitar is a more consistent defensive player though. Toews isn't Katy Perry Hot N Cold like Kopitar, even though his production is less over the last few years.

Dude, come on. Kopitar is sucking anus this year, but he should never in any way shape or form ever be compared to The Stump.

Ever.

It's that damn sports illustrated cover curse!!! It sucks the mojo out of everyone that gets on it!!!

Well then just let him leave, so we can stop having this stupid threads every few months.

I sincerely hope this doesn't mean we miss the playoffs, let alone an early exit.

Honestly, I've seen it happen too many times. :shakehead

Wonder how long Sutter keeps trying Carter\kopitar. That mix sucks and always has.

Case in point, 2013 WCF. :shakehead
