Surprise thread! Nope...not really.

Even with all the defensive issues the Kings have been having this season, the biggest disappointment so far has been Kopitar. He missed some games due to injuries, but he's not injured anymore and his play has been underwhelming.

I want to believe it's the cup hangover and he's not really invested into hockey right now, but you don't see the same thing happening to Toews and rest of the Blackhawks.

Well...I guess it's good for DL though when it comes to resigning him he can use Kopi's MIA against him.

Trade him while he still has value... don't need to get stuck with another Richards!

Not engaged in the play , making lazy plays. At some point , Sutter is going to stop trying to get Kopitar going, and just bench him or put him on the fourth line.

Looks like the board has a new whipping boy.

Where have you gone, Mike Richards, a Kings board turns its lonely eyes to you

Woo hoo! Annual "what is wrong with Anze Kopitar" thread. Jump in, buckle your seatbelts and grab some popcorn. The party has begun.

I'm frustrating, but we have to remember he has lead the Kings in scoring for 7 seasons. He's not going to turn into trash for good overnight. We'll just have to deal with this slump for a while.

Highest fenwick rel% on the team. AKA, the Kings are really struggling possession wise when he isnt on the ice

2nd only to Gaborik in 5 on 5 close zone start adjusted fenwick%

Only reason why his points are low is because of his low shooting % when on the ice. When that raises a couple of percentage point back to the normal, he will be back to 70 point pace as usual

Toews is much more of a consistent player.

Toews and Getzlaf are both better players than Kopitar. Kopitar is fantastic, but he lacks the will (not effort) to compare favorably to those two. The book on his entire career, at least when it will come to flaws, is that he tends to not demand enough on the ice when you take into account his talent level.

He is probably tired or has some nagging injury or whatever. Time for others to carry the load for a change.

Being 1 of the top possession players since the stat was tracked isn't demanding the ice?

Having the puck a lot wins games, not making your presence felt

Hell no. Kopitar can not aford to coast throught playoffs, while Captain Robot can. He did that and they stil won. Kpoitar does not have Patrcik Kane to get the job done.

nah, Kopitar doesn't have GRIT, TRUCULENCE or CHARACTER

Calgary probably wouldn't even take him for free

I would take toews over kopitar. But that is just me. Getzlaf is supremely talented offensively , but doesn't control 200ft of ice.

Ew, no.

Toews and Kopitar are almost exactly the same player and when you consider how long Kopitar played on a crap team compared to Toews it's tilted towards Kopitar. The biggest difference between the two is place of birth and mythical Canadian intangibles.

He's slumping. We've been spoiled by his durability and consistency over the years. He's been due a down year for a while. As I said in the GDT, even Getzlaf has had an awful year. Think of all the time Crosby and Malkin have lost. I can't think of one player in this era who has played so much hockey and been A-Ok the entire time. He'll return to form. But yes, his play is crap right now...so easily moved off the puck, soft turnovers, etc.--this is stuff we've never seen from him and it could be anything from injury to exhaustion. Who knows. What we do know is we have lots of history that he'll get it together. In the meantime though, ugh.
