1 point back of Peter Stastny.

Once he passes him, Malkin and Sundin will be the only European Centers ahead of him in points. There's a decent chance he passes both of them eventually

Hmm. I don't know. He's gotta get like 150 more points to get past both. 130 to get past Sundin. It's possible, but a lot can change suddenly at this point in his career.

After we trade Greentree and a 1st for Malkin (another center), that will ensure Kopitar catches him. Malkin's production will immediately fall off a cliff when Hiller turns him into a 3rd line winger.

I think that’s a little off

Especially in the 2010s Kopitar was frequently in the top 25 and often 10-20

He was always “just out of sight” which is why people underrate his offense
Kopitar placed in the top 20 in scoring six times. That matches a number of HOF players including Iginla, Kariya, Lindros, Gilmour, Alfredsson, Roenick and Goulet. And it's more than HOF'ers like Datsyuk, Hossa, McDonald, Bure, LaFontaine, Nieuwendyk, Ciccarelli, Andreychuk, Gartner, etc.

Pretty entertaining watching this and thinking of all the times people would complain about Kopitar in different capacities - not caring enough, being a floater, not scoring enough goals during some arbitrary timespan.

It's going to be sad when he retires, and fans just didn't enjoy or appreciate what he brought while he was here. And somehow it was more exciting to think of the return he'd get in a trade as opposed to the return the team would get if they committed to a rebuild and let him age gracefully in a lesser role.

He's doing this at the age of 37, averaging 19:00/game. He averaged almost 21:00 a game since the second cup win till the end of last season.

He still needs to shoot more.

The fact Kopitar only got out of the first round of the playoffs three times in his career is criminal.

This franchise didn’t deserve him.
OR....

Did Kopitar settle for merely being a cog in prolonged mediocrity instead of pushing harder to maximize team and individual success?

I will say this until my dying breath, Anze Kopitar will always be the conundrum of a disappointing Hall of Famer.

The only people who would call Kopitar a 'disappointing Hall of Famer' are bipolar Kings fans.

Your assessment on Kopitar is wrong, management failed to keep the team competitive by trading picks, locking up guys like Gaborik, keeping MR, failing to understand the core needed upgrading and of course that all coincides with BLuc taking over the team

a better front office could have won with late-stage kopi still in the fold. the shitty front office we got couldn't/didn't. blaming the player is small dick energy

I think it’s an interesting chicken/egg dilemma. Did Kopitar’s demure unflappability hold him back? Or did it make him who he was?

Unless there is at least one major change and at least one other key change on the roster, we have no chance to win the Cup this year. So to me this year is a waste. But, if somehow Kopitar finally wins his Hart trophy this year, then it will be an important season nonetheless.
