Anyone else concerned about Tavares?

He’s a good player on a good team.
He signed for fair market value at the time and like a sundin seems to be able to keep the exact same production about ppg as he ages.

The cap without a pandemic should have been about 95 million by now. It made sense then

He is probably 2.5 overpaid for now….. but willie is about 2.5 underpaid.

Not the end of the world.

Where does he play? If O‘Reilly comes back is he 3C or 2W?

My assumption is the Leafs will try to match one of ROR or Matthews against the Point line and Tampa will try to match Cirelli against Matthews. Can the Leafs afford to have Tavares and Nylander on the ice with Point Kucherov? Do the Leafs go with ROR, Marner and Tavares

If they can somehow get Tavares and Willy against Paul and Maroon that’s a big advantage for the Leafs.

Moot, there is no cap in the playoffs. It's all about performance.

False

"Tavares is ranked 79th in even strength production and has a top 5 cap hit in the league."

He's 42nd for C.

Better than Lindholm, Bergeron, Horvat, Kuznetsov, Kadri... Tied with Miller and Hertl... He is probably close to a 1C because they put a lot of wingers at C too.

Notably, I saw Jarnkrok from our team at C.

Tavares is a great player, and I'm not concerned at all. As long as he doesn't get kneed in the head in the playoffs, he will pull his weight.

Should be rested before playoffs. Still do not understand why they do not use him to take draws in our end on the PK.
I agree he should be rested, but putting him on the PK is dangerous.

The only reason anyone cares about his performance is cap

If he made 1 million would this thread exist?
I think it has more to do with his defense.

He wins the draw, we shoot the puck out, he gets off the ice and 30 seconds have elapsed. He should be good enough to PK if he loses the draw IMO.

Tavares is fine. Not great, not terrible

His contract was supposed to be a steal due to the ever-rising cap.

Imagine a world where he signs for 8.9$, setting an example for the rest...

I thought we were talking about 5v5.
Among all forwards this year, Tavares is 51st in 5v5 points, and a few points off the top-30, while getting less ice time than most above and around him.
Among centers this year, Tavares is 24th in 5v5 points, and a few points off the top-15.
And I'm not sure why you'd ignore his PP impacts anyway.
Overall, still a really good player and a big part of this team.
Surely we can wait until offseason before unnecessarily dumping on our players.

He's a #1C in 5v5 production this year despite lesser minutes than most... positive expected goal differential... positive goal differential...
You're unnecessarily creating concern, for some reason, as we gear up for the playoffs.
He has one more goal at 5v5 than Engvall this year, with about 16% more 5v5 ice time.

I'll be happy if he's on the wing to start the POs.

He just can't run a top end line anymore.
He will be .. don't sweat it .. even he knows it .. ROR and JT will make a very good 2nd line .. only question left is does Willy make a 3rd line with Lafferty and Jankrok or does he play with ROR .. my guess they go back and forth and see what works best
