Looking at the current cap situation and D depth chart its looking like Liljegren is the most likely to be dealt.
Any teams take him for a 4th or 5th?
Any teams take him for a 4th or 5th?
no, he is getting 3 mil per yr and looking like a 7th D man, I have a feeling no one is going to pay much for a bottom pair guy making 3 milLol u are drunk bro...
not really, its IMO7D? Has Rifai leapfrogged him?
The goal/plan was he should be a top 4 guy but he just isn't taking that next step. He would be a good option on a team lacking D depthTimmy would be a good fit on a bad team. He has a couple tools but overall isn't good.
Issue is we need to sign Patches and Lorentz, we're 1 mil over the cap and I suspect about 875-1m each for Patches and Lorentz meaning dropping Lilj's 3 mil makes everything work.No reason to trade tim. Tanev and hakanpaa tend to be injured

Unless they just sign 1 of the 2 and move Jarnkrok but IMO that's the worse move.
I don't know the return but it's delusional to think there aren't teams that would take a chance on him.
A 25 year-old RD with a few years of NHL experience and 2 years on his deal @ 3M? That's a low risk gamble with potentially a decent (but modest) upside for a GM that needs help on the (right side) blueline.
In a vacuum for sure but its the start of the season and most teams may not have the flexibility to take on 3mil with 0 cap going the other way25 year old right shot d-man with multiple seasons of NHL experience for a 4th round pick?
Every GM in the league would do this
You would think so, but the coaching staff seemed to him placed as the 7-8th D.I don't know the return but it's delusional to think there aren't teams that would take a chance on him.

Feels like a team like the Sharks would be all over it. Take the cap hit and get him for basically free.
Lilly needs more minutes but the org simply doesn't want to give them to him
Ceci, Rutta, and Benning have underwhelmed. Vlasic is next up playing his offside. I’d be in favor of a 4th or 5th for Liljegren. Best case he can play at a 2nd pair level, but I’d take a solid third pair RHD who is young.
We have Dickinson and Muk, but no promising youth at RHD.
I can see it but for some reason we are not giving him the chance he needs and if he can do that for someone else then fine. Sure it sucks to sell low but moving him solves many issues and the recent play of Rafai and Timmins makes it less risky of a move.Worst case he is a bottom pairing dman who doesn't do much aside from have a good first pass and be ok defensively (and be right handed).
But he was drafted as an offensive D, and then never given the chance outside of small sample sizes. And then it seems when he gets chances due to injuries he is wildly successful. Like last year when Rielly got suspended and he played top pairing minutes and PP1 time. Our PP was 50% in that stretch.
I don't get it. Seems like he is easily worth a pick to take a chance on. I am on record thinking Liljegren is the next Stralman
A SJ 3rd is a pretty good offer IMO, sure we are selling low but based on what it looks like Berube is looking for, Lilj isn't going to get a real chance to preform (outside of multiple D injuries)To be honest, I've been keeping a close eye on the Liljegren situation throughout camp because I think he's the perfect player for the Sharks to target right now.
Right-handed, fairly young, can handle the puck well. I know Leafs fans have been critical of his playoff performance but that, uh, is not a problem for the Sharks right now.
I'd be happy to take him off your hands at full salary for a third rounder.
Well, it would be Edmonton or Colorado's 3rd (we don't have our own).A SJ 3rd is a pretty good offer IMO, sure we are selling low but based on what it looks like Berube is looking for, Lilj isn't going to get a real chance to preform (outside of multiple D injuries)
