Lander needs some time in the AHL to get his mojo back but really even with him having zero points I am sure the oilers will miss him if we did send him down. Who would we replace him with ?

I think it's safe to admit we have the worst bottom 6 forwards in hockey.

Worst 3rd line in hockey.
Worst 4th line in hockey.

Worst bottom 6 by default.. when you have the worst lines that is.

They don't change momentum and they literally can't score a goal.

Every second or third game we have to spot the other team a goal because of these clowns.

Are you talking about our present 3rd and 4th lines? Or are you referring to the 3rd and 4th lines when Klink, Korpi and Hendricks are in the lineup? Because if it's the latter, then I have to disagree and would say they aren't the best, but they are not too bad.

Landers big problem is he has lost some confidence and cannot find the back of the net. He is fine on faceoffs, blocking shots, drawing lots of penalties (which means he's working hard and forcing others to foul him), and having a physical element in his game. I think once he pots a goal, he'll straighten out in that department. But he needs to bear down and make it happen. I may be in the minority, but I think he figures it out.

Given how useless the non Taylor Hall lines have been since McDavid went down I'd be willing to give Lander a shot between Hall and Draisaitl, see if they can't drag him along for the ride and let RNH and Eberle try and get their mojo going on a 2nd line. It sucks to be a one line team but that's what they are right now.

Lander is just in a funk right now it happens offensively.

He's playing great in his own end, winning face-offs, battling, etc

Is he really playing that "great" in his own end though? Last I heard, he's been benched a period before and was caught just watching his cover man

I think the big problem is what CupofOil said earlier. He just can't skate at the NHL level.
Too bad because he's a really gritty, hard working player of the type this team could sorely use.

Playing great means a -6, tied for the worst on the team. Yet the player people keep complaining that can't play defence is a +6. Hmm

Perhaps it's time to cut ties with Lander. Perhaps Lander misses Nelson. Seems he only played well under Nelson.

Maybe he can play wing? But I guess his skating is average and wingers are typically faster.

I have never complained about Hall's Defence or Hall.

Lander is 10th in GA/60 on the team.

I agree, but it's pretty depressing considering Gordon and Hendricks were as good as any 4th line in the league. Now it's just ok

Oh maybe.

I figured his ankle was falling apart- warrior-style.

Ya, I don't think we have a Whitney situation with Hendricks

I had very high hopes for Lander. I was honestly penciling him in as a 40 pt 3rd line centre this season.

Which was admittedly highly optimistic as how many 3rd line centres pot 40 pts in a season. Probably count them on 1 finger.

Last season there were only 55 centres in the NHL with 40+ pts so really more realistic would have been 30+ pts for Lander in a 3rd line role. Even that looks far,far beyond his abilities at this stage though.

20 pts in 38 games last season was obviously an anomaly as in his other seasons he's had a total of 8 pts in 111 games. That's basically pretty much Luke Gazdic/John Scott type numbers.

The thing is he's not that great defensively either. Looking at his advanced stats... he's had a higher GA/60 relative to his teammates in every single season he's played with the Oilers.

He's essentially been a defensive liability out there every season and an offensive black hole every year as well... except for that anomalous year last season.

I'm not a Lander hater by any means either... I was honestly hoping he'd have a great year this year and fill that pivotal #3C spot for the Oilers... letting McDavid/Draisatl ease into that #2C role more easily.

Doesn't look like it's meant to be though with how mediocre Lander has been in the bottom 6.

Do they cut bait and waive him? It's a possibility but I don't know what other options they have in the AHL though... Yakimov/Miller/Khaira... all far from ideal for that #3 spot.

The Oilers are pretty much stuck with Lander unless they trade for something better... but again getting better D is likely the more pressing need and what team is going to dump a useful #3C anyway. Any useful assets the Oilers expend shouldn't really be on a #3C at this stage either.

I'd probably run with Hendricks as #3C and Letestu as #4C and put Lander on the wing... or PB him because he's basically a liability out there.
