Reading this board Beauvillier trade has been negative. I put these stats out there and maybe you will cool off a bit.

- '25 draft is not a deep draft, so Caps probably end up picking ~ 27th to 32nd, so it's close to a 3rd round pick in a not so deep draft

- Beauvillier has scored 13 goals so far with 7 assists in 63 games.

- In his playoffs career he has 31 pts in 55 games.

- Read somewhere he's like a Carl Hagelin 2 years removed from playing on the that Pens 3rd line that won 'em a Cup(was that in '16 or '17?)

His playoff numbers definitely give me hope that he can help out. He had 2 very good runs with those Trotz Islander squads. I thought he was older than 27, dudes been around for awhile.

He had decent numbers for a while then seems to have bounced around the last 2 years. Does anyone know why?

He’s fast, he’s a tenacious forechecker, he’s defensively formidable, he likes to hit, and he will pot mid-teens in goals.

He’s definitely going to start on 3rd line.

Mangie - Beau - Leonard could be a thing as the season ends, going into the loffs.

That could be saucy.

Pretty much the typical story. He was a tweener for too long, is one way to look at it. When you're scoring 20+ at age 20 they want to develop you as a top-6er. But then he didn't trend upward strongly enough, showed enough defensive prowess with a "200-foot game or bust" coach to make them think of him more ideally as a middle-6er.

Their depth talent wasn't great, so when he hit their 3rd line his offensive production dropped. They mis-timed a 3-year deal that should have been a bridge. Now they're paying over $4m a year for a guy potting 12 goals and 30 points. Traded in a package to Vancouver for Horvat. Clicked well there at first, but then last year it was 3 teams in a season and suddenly he's a reclamation project. That $4m pricetag dogged him.

Same kind of dodgy luck -- bad timing on injuries and contracts -- that complicates the dev cycle of a lot of prospects early on.

I always really liked his game. Responsible play, pretty consistent, seems to work hard. Goes to the right places in both zones. All good things. Then he signed as a Penguin and he was dead to me. Nice to find out he's alive. Good for him. ;)

I'm a draftnik so would have preferred to take another prospect shot late in the 2nd round. Always nuggets to be unearthed.

Sure, but most of those nuggets are turds. It can take a while to get the smell off you.

Beauvillier has a surname that sounds like he smells like Axe body spray, but he might not be quite that Frenchy.

I agree with you at the moment, but if he plays well enough to earn an extension, hindsight will be pretty kind to this trade. I keep coming back to the knack this front office has for finding the right kind of nugget via free agency and trades like this that seem iffy at first...

I came here to say this trade sucks but then I read your post and I have my fingers crossed.

I also expected at least one more trade for the Caps. Must be the quietest trade deadline for our team in YEARS

With where they will pick, it’s basically a 3rd rounder. But I still don’t like the move. But at the same time, they’ve made a lot of really good moves over the last 2 years. So if this one flops, so be it.

Not targeting your post but i just find this often repeated line funny. The later second is basically a 3rd whereas early 3rd is basically a 2nd rounder. Makes it sound as it would be smarter to upgrade the late 2nds to early 3rds.

in this trade both are true, we overpaid but also its not much of a deal in the bigger picture to lose a late 2nd. People (myself included) wouldnt be nearly as upset if we traded our 3rd instead. And thats the kind of storm in the water glass that this TDL was.

We have a really good thing going. Lets enjoy the ride. Team already responded with electrical third period win.

He’s also played in 55 playoff games (not a small sample size), and has 31 points. They beyond 3rd line production.

Oh yeah! And he’s only 27!

Really isn't much to be angry about in this trade deadline. The team didn't need much. I think there was a bigger risk of damaging team chemistry with multiple additions (or subtractions). Given what was available and the prices teams were asking, I'm glad we didn't give up any of our young players / prospects. I would only have done that if there was a star player available (who wasn't a rental).

We have the top 2 lines pretty well sorted, so no need to pick up any top 6 players there. Goaltending tandem is rock solid and the defense is kicking in loads of offense and the pairings look like they have good chemistry. Getting the bottom 6 to consistently contribute has been the only real problem this year. Beauvillier gives them another puzzle piece to work with. Carbery has 19 games to get our bottom 2 lines going.

This is where I’m at too. Vrana was not the 3rd line answer for the playoffs, so bring in Beauvillier and Lenny and work out the middle 6 to get a solid third line.

I think it's about a little more speed, a little more depth, giving some forwards the odd night off, maybe trying to introduce some potentially motivating competition amongst the bottom six, and maybe a shot at him pulling a John Druce or DSP in the playoffs. Gosh Ottawa outspeeded us the other day. Penguins will draft some scrub with the pick and will continue to suck. It's going to be OK.

I’m excited to see him play. Not gonna lie
