Odd move, but what irritates me more is trading with divisional rivals. This one of the reasons I didn’t want Nelson. I rather the rivals suck.
Why exactly would we trade Eller at this point? He's worth more to us right now then any pick we would get for him.TSN reporting him a C. I trust the staff on this one. Does not block anyone and they must think he will make some difference.
Now ship out Eller and Milano for picks and be done
Bring up Miroshnichenko, Lappy and wait for Leonard.
I thought he was good in the games vs the Caps with the Isles. The frequent change in scenery in recent years is alarming. The reaction about this minor move is hilarious. It’s a sellers market. Has been for weeks. Like it or not, versatile role players are valuable depth in the playoffs, and teams can ask high prices this year. Is AB the piece that puts them over the top? Probably not. But that guy might cost one of our top-tier prospects, first rounders, and roster players this year based on what we’re seeing. I just don’t see the front office doing that. Plus, they’ve earned the benefit of the doubt.

Exactly. The pick isn't a big deal, but the target is underwhelming. I generally like Beauvillier, I just don't see that it's much help. As a future move, sure, if you plan to retain him. But I doubt he was looking at big money in free agency. He's certainly not going to find that 20-goal pace playing with Eller.
Weird move.
We've said this the last few years. The waning hours of TDLs have been uneventful for a long stretch now, so don't get your hopes up. And I don't see how this would be viewed as the start of something -- like we had to do this so we could set up something else. That doesn't track at all. If anything, we could've used that asset to help acquire something better.
In other words, the pick was worth more in a trade than the player. I agree that it's not a stellar first add for a new GM. I'd have respected him more at a post-TDL presser just saying, "Did you guys SEE those prices today?? f*** THAT, amirite?"
Even if the Caps don't make it to the conference finals, this pick is likely around 59-60 (depending on who advances).Guys, the 2nd should be high 20s if not low 30s. Not a top 40 pick.
Yep. Basically, two late 2nds are the equivalent of one early 2nd. So it's half the price.Even if the Caps don't make it to the conference finals, this pick is likely around 59-60 (depending on who advances).
For those who pointed out Cristall and Hutson, note that they were taken in the 40s (40 and 43 respectively). There's close to 20 selections between those slots.
Every pick has a chance of making it, but there's a solid difference between drafting early in the 2nd round and later in the 2nd round.
Maybe. Or maybe he’s just been unlucky to be just valuable enough to help make trades happen. There’s apparently several guys on our roster who’ve played with him so you have to think they had good things—or at least not bad things—to say.I thought he was good in the games vs the Caps with the Isles. We have a recent second round pick who might be our #1 prospect and another easily in our top 5. Second round picks are extremely valuable when you scout well. This is a really bad trade based on value.Minor deal with oversized upside, given his skillset. He's just a Milano/Vrana replacement whose salary easily fits within Milano's LTIR caphit.
2nd round pick is an overpayment, but in the big scheme of picks and our prospects it's fairly far down the list of expected impact.
Again, those were early 2nds. This is a late 2nd in a bad draft. Those are not any where near equal value. In fact, it's less than half the value of the picks that got us Cristall and Hutson. We have a recent second round pick who might be our #1 prospect and another easily in our top 5. Exactly, for a dude that had a couple of really good playoff runs with overachieving islanders teams.Again, those were early 2nds. This is a late 2nd in a bad draft. Those are not any where near equal value. In fact, it's less than half the value of the picks that got us Cristall and Hutson.
Hutson was mid second Cristall upper middle. We hear constantly about weak drafts but none of that matters down the road after everyone develops (or doesn't) and more often than not it's bullshit. Where are you ascertaining this value from? A fantasy GM website?Again, those were early 2nds. This is a late 2nd in a bad draft. Those are not any where near equal value. This assumes Dubas suddenly figures out how to GM. I'm not too concerned.Odd move, but what irritates me more is trading with divisional rivals. This one of the reasons I didn’t want Nelson. I rather the rivals suck.
