Didn't realize this was the result of the Lias dumpster dive, but not surprising he is blossoming into a player. He is probably going to outscore every single Kings first rounder of the Blake era this season, you almost can't make this stuff up, it's just hilarious at this point.

The Kings wouldn't drafted him though, maybe if he had been a 5'11 or 6' center we could play the what-if game.

And just checked on Lias, playing in Switzerland now, not that I can blame him, that would be an amazing place to live, even if the hockey is behind other places in Europe. But man, top 10 pick to Swiss league at 25.

I didn't hate the Lias Andersson move/idea, still don't, in general. But I DO remember being miffed by it being that pick in particular with how many good prospects were still there

I remember being big on Lohrei (woudln't have gotten him anyway), Jack finley, and basically all of picks 55-58 , wanted them to makea s mall move and get really any of them. Big dropoff right after that until brown label Laf

Either did I. We traded a very low 2nd [60th] for the 7th OA pick as a reclamation project. There was no guarantee they'd have taken Cuylie with that pick either, probably would've taken Simontaival there instead of at 66th. But we did get Laf in the next round, and I;m ok with that.

Yeah. If anything though guys like Cuylle are hard to find. I was high on him and Jake Neighbors as well, the Kings are really missing a big lunk that can play middle six and be tough, it’s why guys like Crouse have more value than their abilities. I’ve always wanted Mantha as well inconsistencies be damned, sign him to 1-2 year deals in perpetuity lol

Kings did go on a run of drafting some size deeper though. I saw Lawrence as a dark horse and early returns are encouraging. Less so on Sparkes it seems? But they’re not oblivious to it, they just seem to try to take advantage of smaller players earlier in the draft as an inefficiency and pick up size later

Bedard has next to no help in Chicago. There is 1 player (donato, 15) with more than 12 points on that team outside of bedard.

Celebrini has 6 other players (granlund 29, eklund 23, walman 19, zetterlund 19, toffoli 18, wennberg 14) over 12 points.

Bedard is leading his team by 4 points. Byfield is in a 7/8/9th 3 way tie in points in LA.

There is just no reality where that trade makes sense unless byfield is like the 3rd piece in the deal.

Lawrence can be that guy. Also Ziemmer can do it all. Greentree can fight also but he’s a star player, but has the size.

Sparkes is a D and he looks like a project.

Kings had a try out in camp who was one of the tougher junior players - Corbin Vaughan. He’s also a D though, but he can play.

Took some steps in the right direction tonight, at least. Kind of surprised he didn't get at least one point on those cycle sequences and the work to make the cross pass one timer.

They had a good observation in the post game where playing with jeannot and Foegele is going to be north south balls to the wall stuff so it takes away the east west junk and forces them to simplify

After an uggglllyyyyy first that seemed to work, let's see if he can build on it.

Check 55 position on the Foegele goal.
 
For those really into the whole expected goals stat, the Kings currently lead the league in even strength xGF% (57.44%) and all strengths xGF% (56.69%). They're 5th in actual even strength goals for % and 10th in actual all strengths GF%.

If not for special teams, this team would be pretty elite. Weird to say, because they don't look dominant at all.

Respectfully disagree

I think they look absolutely dominant at 5v5 most nights--they struggle with goaltending and finishing.

But as you mention, once you change it into any sort of special team situation, PP PK EN OT SO, they turn into a lottery team. At least the PK has been good this time around.

This has been a yearly problem for a few years, maybe more pronounced right now because of the 5v5 numbers. It's actually quite fascinating and speaks to the system abilities vs. the individual talent that pops more in special situations.

But it's also really bad that they are SO good at 5v5 but SO bad at the other 5-10% of the game that they're actively not a contender because of it.

i agree that moore should be traded but kakko is essentially a bust while moore has been a persistent 40 point two way player.

Id have said pick him up while Doughty is out so they can put Gavrikov back on the left side.
But I actually like how Moverare has been playing and Gavrikov has made a pretty seamless switch to his offside.
