Speculation: Another year of this Bluc **** (The 2024-25 season thread)

Any idea when the game tonight is gonna be postponed? Had tickets for tonight and now its a no go. I always thought they moved the postponed games to the end of the regular season?

Damn was looking forward to this game too. One game a week is just not enough. Having hockey withdrawal but I do get the cancelation.

I was thinking that too but at least it was a midweek one off

now they get a few more days rest (good for Edmundson, bad for rust) before going on a roadie...3 in 4 nights in canada culminating with the oilers then a couple more.

Its uncomfortable watchingthe neighborhood i grew up near and owned a home and played golf in burn to a crisp.
Im an old bastard and ive been evacuated and lived through these types of wildfire events but never one this bad.
I truly hope for the safety and comfort of the folks affected

Can't wait till a game against the BJs is postponed...
BJ's end at the exact moment marriage begins

Family of mine are packing their photo albums as we speak, and close family friend of ours had his home burn down yesterday.

It’s a tragedy stemming from mismanagement, and it’s just gut wrenching to watch people suffer for it.

Its making me extremely thankful for this terrible winter weather we are suffering from here in Wyoming right now.

Stay safe out there everyone.

Absolutely hilarious that this “reputable” site that so many of the global mods act like is the library of Alexandria always seems to go down for no reason and is being held together by imagination.

This is strictly speculation/and educated guess on my part. But postponed games are generally tacked on at the end of the season

The Kings season ends on Tue 4/15 with a away game
The Flames season ends on the same day with a home game

There are games schedule for other teams for the 16th and 17th. So I think it's safe to assume that the game will be played on 4/17 if Staples is open that night.

Edit- I did check and the Lakers regular season ends on 4/13, so I think 4/17 is probably the target date

I don’t think you can prepare realistically for disasters of this magnitude, with that being said… the biggest issue for me on how they handled this was the fact that almost everyone I spoke to had no idea that this Wind event was of such great magnitude. I only knew about it cause I randomly checked the weather app the day before. They should have warned the public of the intensity and the dangers.

We get flash flood warnings efficiently but no real warning of the hurricane type winds that haven’t been seen for nearly 15 years.

Just really bad communication.

This likely won't be allowed to continue long and I will make this as unpolitical as possible, but it can be summated with mismanagement and ineptitude. The LAFD had their budget cut by $23 million, a clearly unqualified person was put in charge, but most importantly CA is doing little to no fire prevention.
One of the reason that fires are far more frequent and severe is because the brush clearing and cleaning up of forests is no longer done and funding was cut for fire prevention

NPR Article

Could the fires have been prevented? Probably not. Should the fires back back a small fraction on their size? absolutely

We can now only hope that this is the watershed event where people start researching politicians instead of blindly reelecting or voting by party. I just wonder at this point who the "fall guy" will be. (and before anyone says Lee Majors, I googled and he lives in fort Lauderdale)
We all saw what happened with Trudeau. Darryl Gates was the fall guy for Rodney King. It could be the LAFD chief or it could go higher with a disaster of this magnitude

I see the fucup fairy visited hf again…

One of my best friends had his house burn to the ground in Altadena. Said all that was left standing was his chimney and fridge. The overnight satellite photo of Altadena is wild. Looks like the entire town burnt to the ground, including an house I used to live in. Absolutely gut wrenching.

Their budget wasn't cut. It was increased by $50 million dollars. There's a LOT of mis/disinformation right now about these fires and it's very much worth it for people to not level accusations or what coulda shoulda been done with a fire that has destroyed something the size of Manhattan in just over 24 hours. The time for "how can we prevent this next time" can come after all of the damage and things are assessed. Doing it while homes are still on fire and firefighters are in danger is just peak internet research.

Absolutely no amount of "preparation" could have been done to stop several fires igniting in the middle of 80mph winds. Natural disasters like this happen and the best you can do is hope you aren't in the line of destruction.

This completely counters what you posted an is a "fact check article"

The adopted budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year increased the amount for the fire department to $819,637,423, according to a summary on the city administrative officer's website. That meant the department's funding saw a decrease of $17,553,814, rather than almost $23 million.
While the LAFD's budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year did decrease by about $17.6 million from the previous year, the amount is a small fraction of the department's total annual budget of almost $820 million.

Furthermore, the LAFD is not the only department responding to the wildfires. The
California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and the Los Angeles County Fire Department are among the agencies tackling the fires, and federal resources have also been deployed.

FACT CHECK BY Newsweek

We have to have agree to disagree but I would personally trust Newsweek over politico

I’m not sure more budget would have done much in this situation. 100mph winds and the firefighters there are ran the hydrants dry. Unfortunately we’ll never know if it would have been different. Just tragic all the way around.

Less tinder waiting to burn could have prevented the fire from snowballing nearly as quickly and making it far more containable

Fwiw I have also seen articles saying the cuts aren’t true. Hard to know what to believe, other than knowing there are a LOT of idiots out there saying all sorts of wild shit. Fires were started by the homeless, fires were started by space lasers, fires were started by the homeless operating space lasers…

Well do know that fires start naturally one way, and there wasn't any lightning , so it was defintely some kind of human activity

Yeah with the media today, who knows what is true

So let's rely on our eyes
and back to the budget cuts... one would assume that there has to be better professional equipment available than...

and

in theory buckets would do a much better job much quicker, right?

You’re assuming that 100million more dollars would actually supply them with buckets.
