Speculation: Another year of this Bluc **** (The 2024-25 season thread)

You’re assuming that 100million more dollars would actually supply them with buckets.
Great point, we are talking about government here.

It's too bad this guy from Blazing Saddles wasn't available because a solution would have been

Coming full circle..... Heads need to roll. I don't know if we need to go full 1793 with the guillotine or maybe so more of a Vlad the Impaler route or even V for Vendetta but government needs to be held FAR more accountable

Not fires related (hope everyone is safe, it's freakin brutal out there) but had a crazy idea this morning...

Kings should offer sheet Bowen Byram in the off season if Gavrikov is demanding $7m+ with term and walks in free agency (I don't know for sure he'd demand that but it's certainly possible with how he's playing this year).

Byram would be an insane pick up. 23 year old left shot puck moving D who probably has even more upside than he's shown to date. Could be a very nice fixture in the Kings top 4 for years to come, with the potential to turn into a true top pair guy.

Byram - Doughty
Anderson - Clarke
Edmundson - Spence

Pretty nasty. Buffalo already has big money locked up long term with Power and Dahlin... Could potentially put them in a tough place in terms of matching an offer sheet.

I haven't heard what caused any of the fires. But my initial assumption was it started from wind-blown down power/electrical lines in these forestry/bushy/canyon areas. That was my guess/assumption.
If that isn't the case, then unfortunately you have to consider accidental homeless fire starting combined with the crazy winds.

You always see fans mention offer sheets -- in reality, it almost never happens. Extremely, extremely rare. To the point where it's a waste of time to talk as an option because it isn't reality. Sure for fun go-for-it. But if you are truly talking real options, it's a waste.

This completely counters what you posted an is a "fact check article"

We have to have agree to disagree but I would personally trust Newsweek over politico
You’re right. My wife has worked with numerous govt agencies and she says California is very picky about doing control burns because of protecting natural resources/habitat which made controlled burns extremely slow process. She says these unprecedented winds and the lack of brush clearing/vegetation burns is what lead to this fire being as out of hand as it is. She mentioned one of the main reasons the Creek fire was so massive because of the lack of controlled burns and she was on the ground for that one.

California just needs to do a better job of clearing brush rather than pulling people over for tinted windows lol

I rate Byram, although he’s another with concussion concerns. He’d be a great pickup nonetheless.

He’s likely a good character guy too, if he’s anything like his old man.

I don't want to stop discussion around the fires, but much like during Covid its almost impossible to keep the discussion from developing into a political discussion.

And I know some of you are going to yell and scream at me and the other moderators, but at the end of the day this is a hockey forum. If someone wants to make a thread about the fires with helpful resources and news updates and general discussion, that's fine.

This is strictly speculation/and educated guess on my part. But postponed games are generally tacked on at the end of the season

The Kings season ends on Tue 4/15 with a away game
The Flames season ends on the same day with a home game

There are games schedule for other teams for the 16th and 17th. So I think it's safe to assume that the game will be played on 4/17 if Staples is open that night.

Edit- I did check and the Lakers regular season ends on 4/13, so I think 4/17 is probably the target date
That's what I figured, oh well. Someone said to contact the company where the tix were purchased, which I'm expecting to be a clusterf*** in this day and age. I hope they just offer a refund, not sure if I want to wait until the end of the year to see the game.

Also really hope the old HFBoards format comes back, this dark theme is throwing me way off...

Come on, it’ll probably be the game that decides if we play the Oilers or the Oilers in the first round!

I have been working on being more positive partially do to a new years resolution and partially due to court ordered anger management... so...I would look at it this way. This game went from a rando January game and at most hoping to extend a winning streak game to potentially being a HUGE game for playoff seeding

I see the fucup fairy visited hf again…

One of my best friends had his house burn to the ground in Altadena. Said all that was left standing was his chimney and fridge. The overnight satellite photo of Altadena is wild. Looks like the entire town burnt to the ground, including an house I used to live in. Absolutely gut wrenching.
I guess where i learned to play golf at Eaton cyn and had my first wedding reception at altedena country club and played may rounds there all burnt. Jfc these places were my stomping grounds as a kid and never realized the emotional connection i have/had with them.
Just incredible to see these places. Hoping and praying everyones loved ones are safe and whole.

It's just a fun idea. I understand it's unlikely but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be a good idea / good fallback option if Gavrikov walks.

Also, we're on an online hockey thread right now - You could argue that virtually any ideas discussed here are pointless / unlikely to happen / etc.

Buffalo is in a situation right now where they're committed to Dahlin and Power long term and have decisions to make on quite a few young players in the coming years (Byram included). Why not put some pressure on them while trying to acquire a 23 year old puck moving d-man who was a previous top 5 draft pick? It could be a damn savy bit of work if it all works out. As I mentioned in my original post, Byram could be a fixture in the Kings top 4 for the next 10 years if they're able to pull off the offer sheet. Everyone is look at the Blues like "damn they were so smart for stealing Broberg and Holloway from the Oilers". Kings could be that team to make the next cheeky offer sheet.

Could also try to trade for his rights in the offseason as another option.

Was talking to my friend who’s a Buffalo fan (poor guy, but he’s from up there) and he thinks that Bryam fits that team better than Power and they might move power.

Putting power on the left to learn from Drew for a couple seasons would be nice.
Power-Doughty
Anderson-Clarke
Edmundon-Spence

That honestly looks like a nice top 6, though I don't really know much about Power 'cept he's been underwhelming so far....

I haven’t watched him a lot, the read I’m getting is that he is good on the transition great in the O zone, gets lost a bit in the D zone. He gets both pp and pk time. Not sure if the pk time is because he’s just so big or..? He has a big cap hit, but he is a Brisson client so Blake will make it work lol

I would DEFINITELY be interested in Power. That would be an absolutely insane D core.

Wonder what the price would be to acquire him though... I imagine insanely high. Would also be tough to find room for his $8.35m cap hit unless the cap goes up significantly but even then I think the Kings would need to shed some money from the forward group. Certainly doable but probably a bit tricky. Fun to think about though for sure.

Hiller is probably responsible for this format change. 🤔 Maybe Luc.

Blues pulled it off last year. I'd target Rossi on Min personally. Still have Kopi next year so the wheels shouldn't fall off & handing Min a 16+ first would be fine. The new rate for a top 6 center should be around 8 AAV. Rossi isn't there yet. Hitting Min with an AAV around 8-9 would make them think twice about matching. King's are in a place where Kopi is going to retire, Doughty is going to get a lower AAV (or be gone) & Danault will be ageing. It's a gamble, but if it misses, they're going to be tanking anyways.

Back in the day, EPA was preventing Riverside County Flood Control District from clearing the "sensitive habitat" out of the flood channel. Rains came & cleared the sensitive habitat out & flooded Temecula. The the residents of Temecula went after damages from the County for improper upkeep of the storm channels.

The incompetence has been there a long time.

Here's a fun fact, San Jacinto has some of the deepest alluvial fan deposits anywhere on the planet. Old friend had crazy stories.

I think with guys like Fiala and PLD this org just cant ingest their styles into the the highly structured systems and defensive style. And over time, they spiral downward and shows their limitations for this style of hockey. Its a disconnect with the GM understanding what kind of player fits in here. PLD was such a f***en odd choice to go all in on and your centerpiece acquisition given the team style.

when i see this point i always wonder how many offer sheets we never hear about. How often are they given out and the player does not sign them. Or at leat how many times does a team reach out to the agent of an RFA and ask about interest.

They've been doing it for years, too. It's not just Fiala. It's PLD. It's Kovalchuk. Hell remember when Cammalleri came back...and lasted 15 games before being traded for Jussi Jokinen? The mistakes just keep getting more expensive. At least when it was guys like Tkachev that they had no clue what to do with they were cheap.

DL sure knew what kind of players he wanted starting w Greene/Stoll, then getting Williams, Mitchell then bringing in Sutter.. there was alignment with the GM and the HC there. Bluc dont have those instincts at all... maybe they learned something because Foegle and Edmundson are step in a better direction... still I dont think they would figure out that maybe Fiala is not a good fit here.

Grinders and JAGs are always excellent here. Is why if they're making moves they really should be targeting guys like Crouse and Kreider rather than waterbug stickhandlers.
