The Leafs were 6-5-2 after 13 games last year. Matthews was off to a crazy hot start and it was the goaltending that was awful.

The goaltending is much, much better. Matthews can't buy a goal, and the PP is awful.

Matthews will get going, the PP will even out. The Leafs should start taking advantage of Stolarz play.

Will it translate into playoff successs?

People don't want to say it because it's easier to be negative, but at some point soon the Leafs will do what they have always done at this point in the season - win a bunch of games in a row and separate themselves from the pack in the division. But your last question is really the point, and we won't know that for a while. I can tell you that I would much rather have solid goaltending than Matthews scoring 69 goals.

Our third line is a real concern. McMann hasn’t done much to be honest, Domi hasn’t even scored a goal, Holmberg should never see the ice again on the third and Robbie isn’t capitalizing. There’s too much pressure on the top two lines, the supporting cast is nowhere to be found. Kampf is an offensive black hole, Reaves isn’t giving you anything offensively and Lorentz is left alone. The bottom six, particularly the third, under reported issue this year, like chip in, you get the crap matchups, the zone starts, do something.

Rough one. Stolarz steals us a point... and then we get a comedy of errors in OT to lose. Domi is beyond stupid, but no clue what OEL and Pacioretty are doing on that play either.

Matthews hasn't lost the ability to score. It will come. The PP will climb up to the upper half of the league.

It was always going to be 20-30 games to really start playong the game Berube wants to play consistantly.

Leafs would have 3 more wins at least if the PP wasn't so awful right now

This covers a lot of these early season games for me. Mostly completely meaningless other than getting points. Hard to get to excited one way or another until March and April.

Thought they played ok, but this team is what it is. Nylander is holding up his end of the bargain, Knies has also been good.

Matthews has been awful. Marner has been ok.

Their bottom 6 is abysmal. Holmberg and Reaves have no place on this team. Hopefully Dewar and Jarkcock can help change that group up.

They will easily make the playoffs, but not confident anything has changed when they get there.

A least I can watch them play this year. I think they’ll be in a playoff race all season making the games in November somewhat meaningful.

I'm not all that upset either. It is, what it is.

It's the same team it's been for a few years now. Like others have said, they'll get hot sometime soon, run off a bunch of wins... and even as poor as they've been, there still third in the division.

It's not really a serious team though. I don't expect anything out of them, as they haven't learned to compete hard every night, or maybe they don't have what it takes to compete hard every night. It's a collection of very talented players at the top, who just aren't "winners". Maybe one day I'll be proven wrong... we'll see. Can Berube re-wire these guys to be "winners"... I know he's trying.

Once you separate the marketing from the product and accept them for what they actually are and not what they want to be, it makes it easier to follow.

The state of the Jays and Raptors being what they are I think they don’t move off this “competitive” Leafs team for a while yet.

Quite an entertaining, if disappointing game.

Stolartz, Timmins, Tanev, and Nylander looked good, the rest of them not do much.

Finally a PP goal - who could have imagined that putting a right handed good shot in that spot would work? Did someone just notice that that's what Boston and Washington and other good teams do, or was it a matter of just realizing that Nylander is a much better shot than Marner?

This core has gone stale and I believe that even they know it. Rielly, Tavares will pick it up for a few games and then come crashing back. Marner looked disinterested last season, Matthews looks disinterested this season. Even they believe it's gone past the expiry date.

Don't forget Shanny hired Dubas. Shanny is still here. He needs to be fired...now! This team adds OEL, Tanev and Stolarz but gets worse. They aren't interested in a cup. 9 years into a build and we looked better the first year. What a joke!

Which really doesn't mean anything. 44 million for the worst pp in the league and carrying a bunch of useless players. That bottom 6 is rancid.We might as play Marlies and save the $$$. This team won't win 2 rounds and yes where do I bet on it?

Not sure what the numbers were but didn't think Timmins was too bad.
Nylander is Nylander, plays a few great shifts a period then is disinterested the rest of the time.
Be interesting to see how long Berube puts up with it.
