Looked like a kick to me.

Matthews should not be bringing the puck in on the pp. He stops skating as soon as he enters the zone and the defenders form a pocket around him. Also can't pass to himself for the one timer.

Speaking of which he should be starting every pp on the off wing to be in place for that one timer.

Everyone ragging on Domi for that head scratching play. Meanwhile Paccioretty was posted on the wall in no man's land and OEL made a poorly timed line change. A two on zero in overtime doesn't just happen.

It requires two players abandoning their man on man coverage.

Hard to blame this one on Stolarz. He did his job. It would have taken a shutout from him in order to win this game.

Would have got it too if that kicked in goal didn't count.

Hopefully Rogers doesn't wait a decade to tear it down and rebuild again in 4 years.

So sick of this rotten pathetic core. I can't believe there are still people that like and believe in them. I want nothing to do with these clowns. Maybe draft some core players with heart next time.

Blame who you want. But the Big 3, have checked out. They are not buying in to Berube. To be honest I did not think he was the right choice either. I wanted Gallant.
But Nylander is floating, demanding more ice and fixing his hair. Matthews, I do not have a clue, but he genuinely seems disinterested. Maybe Male Fashion Model is more his skill set. And Marner...well it actually looks like he is trying out there. But.....well it is Marner.

It may be time to split Marner and Matthews.
Kneiss Matthews Domi
Patches JT Marner
McMann Homberg Nylander
Lorentz Kampf Reaves

Gives them a trigger man on each line. Matthews, Taveras, Nylander and Reaves

Ya think Nylander was whining before about ice LOL?
You can replace Domi with Lorentz on the # 1 line, to give that line a dog on a bone approach.
And Marner may flourish with the net crashing of the old vets.

Flame away. And I will love the lack of offense argument in the above argument, considering they cannot score now.

Question: Wasn't McMann a centre on the way up?

A good thread idea would be starting a 'Lost Points' counter, to track performance against shit teams. Really curious to see how many they piss away en route to another third place divisional finish this year.

Yep, we seem to bleed way too many points against non playoff teams.

Even so far this season we've been decent against the best teams we've played.

W New Jersey
L New York
W Tampa Bay
L Boston
W Winnepeg
L Minny

Two of those losses came in OT, so we took 8 of a possible 12 points in our toughest games.

Two Losses to STL, one to CLB and one to MTL isn't good enough.

is a good thing Domi is tough as nails and bleeds blue and white and is the best passer Matthews has ever played with bc otherwise I would be getting sick of the sight of him
Even better, that he doesn't even play with Matthews anymore, otherwise wee Marner could get upset and throw his gloves around.

This f***ing team... The timeline to contend coincides with the term our D has, after that, just full-on rebuild.

At the rate they're going, they would be lucky to make the playoffs. This is a bubble team now.

Two highest paid have been passengers far too often lately. Not sure what’s wrong with them, Matthews has been terrible and Nylander shows up every 3rd shift, he looks checked out most of the time. Not nearly good enough.

Only caught the highlights. Had to laugh at Domi turning a 3 on 1 into a 2 on 0 in a matter of seconds in OT

That was terrible, laughed at it as well.
I was never much of a fan, it’s easy to see why he’s played on as many teams as he has.

Interesting.

The Leafs were 6-5-2 after 13 games last year. Matthews was off to a crazy hot start and it was the goaltending that was awful.

The goaltending is much, much better. Matthews can't buy a goal, and the PP is awful.

Matthews will get going, the PP will even out. The Leafs should start taking advantage of Stolarz play.

Will it translate into playoff successs?

OEL is fun to watch
He’s been great so far, really like everything about his game, well rounded and the vest D man on the team, and it’s not even close……

Finally have great goaltending and this team decides now is the time to forget how to score goals.

44 f***ing million in cap on a handful of turd forwards. Only one of them can score a damn goal
Winner winner chicken dinner……..

Domi thought the Wild guys were trapped deep and made a play I’ve seen many times in 3 on 3. He was at basically a dead stop and saw nothing but open ice so he chipped it ahead so he could hopefully get in the clear. He just made that gamble and didn’t notice a wild guy was already making strides up ice, he was DOA immediately. It’s not an unusual play though, just was a gamble that failed and looks bad. How the other guys left two guys uncovered up ice is the head scratcher.

Lots of fault to go around but in OT possession is king. He had to find a way to keep possession and get a change.

Some are acting as if the sky is falling. There are games you can use as a barometer for this to be true, last nights game wasn't one of them.

It was a back to back game, on the road, they lost 2-1 to a team that is firing on all cylinders and had a 7-1 record.

Leafs scored on the PP and killed a double minor and lose in the O.T gimmick.

The greater challenges still exist and probably will until and IF they grab different personnel (Leaf ownership has always placed profits over Cup success. The irony of course, is that the value of the team would go up far more along with the revenue if Leafs ever did win a Cup but I digress).

This game isn't the measuring stick that can be fairly applied under the circumstances.

The next four are against Atlantic foes with three of them against teams they are expected to battle for a playoff position.
