They desperately need an easy goal or two in a big game.
Yeah. And they were there for the taking.

Wood and Bratt both failed on clean breakaways. It's getting harder to see either one of them as guys we want to pay lots of money for unless they can figure out ways to 'get right' by themselves.

The change in this team (and the crowd) after Nico scored was dramatic and tbh the team that went on the streak showed up for like 30 seconds. And then we made a weird turnover and it was back to scrambly stupid hockey.

They may look pretty at times, and I think our D corps is actually covering for a lot of ills, but right now up front it is tough to get anything going.

Not saying laine but devils have enough player makers then need a finisher. Something’s gotta change I mean this core has been together for what 4 years now? When is the power play going to actually be good? When is someone going to break for 40 goals?
Very possibly this year when Jack Hughes does it?

The “core” has not been together in any meaningful way for 4 years. Jack is 21.

There were a few guys early on that were producing over their heads. It doesn’t mean they suck, but it just means they aren’t as good as their October and November.

Miles Wood probably being at the top of that list. Pretty sure he was once on pace for over 40 points and over 20 goals. Now he’s on pace for 17 goals and 34 points.

Tatar was another one. He’s still on pace for over 45 points, but I’m pretty sure for a while there he was pacing like the Tatar of his 20’s.
I'm not worried why our 4th line wing is scoring like a 4th line wing. I'll take 17 from Wood

I'm worried why our first and second line wings including the $10m/8 'ship has sailed guy' are all scoring like 4th line wings.

Man people wanting to give Wood the big bucks look silly.

It’s his 4th year meaningful or not that’s on the players.

Same with bratt group

Mentally they are weak because they can’t finish need a sniper for them to rally around

Bratt is a legit top 6 player but the fact that he is a small perimeter player who disappears for long stretches…if a team is relying on that kinda guy as their second best offensive weapon….that’s not good enough to be a true top team.
I dont think its that. Bratt is a PPG+ player but he might be capped out here (or at least until we find an outside player to pair with him). Same could be said for Jack and Nico.

Having no true 30g scorer right now is whats troubling. Fitzgerald has shown very willing to attack areas of need so I have full faith. Plus Holtz is a great project for us if we dont trade him, his shots killer

Im interested why Sharangovich doesnt get glued to Jack or Nico if hes our best shooter. Or maybe why Holtz isnt stuck there through some hardships.

Either way we'll right the ship; not everyones gonna shoot this low a % forever. Losing 8 in 9 is concerning but heck they havent looked terrible, as weird as it is to say. Just that their scoring troubles are poking through for a long stretch rn

This board is like a toxic girlfriend. I know I should leave, but I just love this place too much.
It's somewhat therapeutic for me at times. I remember what I was like when I lived and died with my sports teams, and some of the takes I read are ones I would have had back then. Now I usually just shake my head and try to ignore them. But like a bad habit I can't shake I sometimes just have to engage.

Only thing we can hope for is the finishing to return. They can obviously skate with any team. It’s just a fact. It comes down to goaltending and scoring. I hope we are due a hot scoring stretch.

I worry the goaltending or defense (thanks to injuries) falls apart once the finishing levels out.

Would feel a bit better if Schmid was still up as opposed to Blackwood
