Because it’s almost always an extremely stupid thing to do. We did sign a guy over 28 with multiple cups, though.
And no one wanted him and still don’t lol

Yeah, trading away your second best offensive player is a great way to improve your scoring.
It is if you’re bringing back a 35-40 goal scorer yes it is. If it’s going to improve the power play and open up other players because teams are focusing on him yes it will

And yet Smith Hamilton Palat Tatar and Haula are supposed to be just that and it has only had limited impact.
Smith tatar haula all brought in for role playing spots the fact they are in bigger roles on this roster is proof what’s lacking . Anytime a top flight ufa comes everyone everyone gets gun shy.

Tatar had a nice start and as his defenders are quick to point out, he scored at a top six rate for almost all of his career before last year...but he's fallen off about as fast as Jonsson did last year after his own illusory hot start.

Bratt is a legit top 6 player but the fact that he is a small perimeter player who disappears for long stretches…if a team is relying on that kinda guy as their second best offensive weapon….that’s not good enough to be a true top team.

Are we really going back to the Bratt for Laine type stuff lol...look trading a playmaker for a scorer is robbing peter to pay paul. You need both of those types of players. Taking away one to add the other is not going to help.

It's the least valuable thing yet the Devils can never seem to find one. Doesn't help they aren't even trying to grow one (Holtz).
Sharangovich is a career 14.4% shooter, 15.4% this year, 20 even strength goals last year. No gaudy totals because of the PP, but he’s a sniper to me. It would be nice if they used him with our best playmakers instead of the guy that literally can’t score.

They signed Hamilton and Palat though. I mean they aren’t getting a top center to sign here and they are going to have a problem signing a top defender to play down in thr lineup. And in goal those veteran signings have all blown up. What veteran UFA would have mattered and not had a ripple effect on the lineup that would be robbing Peter to pay Paul?

I mean Fitz tried to sign Johnny hockey.
I’m not so sure it’s as easy as you’re making it sound. The really good teams have a several great offensive threats that play different roles. If we want to be that, then we need to add the sniper in addition to Bratt, not to replace him.

I don’t know what ad I hate more when doing my goals reviews and have to watch an ad before every goal.

The stupid f***in Santa Clause training commercial for some leg massaging device

The Crosby/Swayman winter classic ad

Or the numerous stupid Chipotle ads. “I like taking pride in my food! You walk in and get to see me making your chicken! This is gonna be in your bowl! This is it! This is it! This is it!”.

I should do a “Ads before goals” Review. Which ones suck and which ones don’t. Spoiler alert: they all suck!

I still think the Santa one is the worst.
Here’s another I forgot that I just saw and have been seeing all season. I’ve got every word memorized now.

“Over a thousand games, including the one you want. The moments nobody has but us, the plays nobody has but us. That! Is hockey! On ESPN+” with Messier.

Tatar is 3rd line fodder who gets hot now and then. The fact he’s getting the playing time he does now is just showing how weak we are

I agree he did try and bring him in and I applaud him I’m speaking this board doing backflips when he didn’t sign here because age cap and bratt resigning. I’m all for keeping bratt if you can bring in a legit scoring winger all the better but I feel to get one you have to give. Then whatever money you have bring in someone else in the summer I dunno.

Jesus H Christ some of the takes in here acting like we got whipped 7-1 tonight. Just terrible.

The problem is that it is in the context of all of these losses.

Also, it's clear that this team is playing a certain way once it gets flustered and loses confidence.

I like this team a lot but right now it is Jack Hughes and a bunch of guys watching him skate, lacking the poise and confidence too make plays, especially one someone hits Nico.

I was at the game and the place was a morgue, mainly because it was clear we were going to have a difficult time winning from the puck drop.

The air went out of the place with Nico getting crushed and after that we looked just plain crazy

Yeah skating circles around them is nice and Jack can break ankles, but it sure doesn't have much to do with winning hockey.

All of our forwards outside of maybe Zetterlund, Wood, Mercer and McLeod, refused to forecheck and go into the corners with any purpose.

All of our forwards were gripping sticks so tightly they couldn't receive a pass.

The closest Bratt got to the net he wiffed three times on a puck and that's indicative of how it's going right now.

When things were good, we has tight interior passing and guys skating. I was amazed at the body language before every faceoff. Boston had all five guys waiting as a unit on the ice ready to go, and we would meander of the bench reluctantly.

There's just alot wrong mentally with this squad and it shows in the disorganized garbage hockey they are playing.

We have enough talent now, we just need to learn poise and how to respond to physicality.

No lies detected. Same goes with shara people point out his 25 30 goals whatever he had last year but guy just goes cold too long and when both are cold they aren’t even helping the other guys. Imagine if jack went down hurt? Forget it

Not saying laine but devils have enough player makers then need a finisher. Something’s gotta change I mean this core has been together for what 4 years now? When is the power play going to actually be good? When is someone going to break for 40 goals?

They desperately need an easy goal or two in a big game.

Deal surrounding Bratt for Meier makes.. I mean, is it plausible?
can have both Bratt and Meier . Bratt has gone old but is still a dominant player when he is on. But the differnece between a top tier guy and “good” is consistency . So far , Bratt hasn’t shown to be consistent enough to warrant being elite and earn elite money.

There were a few guys early on that were producing over their heads. It doesn’t mean they suck, but it just means they aren’t as good as their October and November.

Miles Wood probably being at the top of that list. Pretty sure he was once on pace for over 40 points and over 20 goals. Now he’s on pace for 17 goals and 34 points.

Tatar was another one. He’s still on pace for over 45 points, but I’m pretty sure for a while there he was pacing like the Tatar of his 20’s.
