Come on guys! We're on the second page of an Animal House themed GDT and nobody has made a Niedermayer joke yet? It's right there!

Thompson got time before his major injury, so I'm not surprised he's getting another chance now that he's got some game time under him.
He has played the cycle-the-puck down low game well in his stints up here in prior years and will go into the corners and keep the puck moving. He may fit that line better than Holtz but also Holtz may just be under the weather or something.

At some point NJ will have better allegedly first line winger options than Tatar and Zetterlund. Both are very good players in their roles, but I'm skeptical that is a first line role. I'd probably swap them with Shara and Mercer.

I thought Zetts hit a wall a week or so ago, but he did have a few good looks over last 2 games. I agree with you not a 1st liner material over long haul. But maybe he will get used to NHL schedule grind soon enough. I think Mercer should end up there over time.

Hopefully the rest did the guys some good and they can get going again, like during the streak.

Not sure what your knock on either of those players is. On a nightly basis that line has consistently been New Jersey's strongest group when it comes to playing both ends of the ice. Given that Zetterlund is in his first full season that bodes well for the future.

Zetterlund has been good in the grand scheme of things, absolutely...but his output and effectiveness hit a wall in thr last 20 or so days. (So did others).

Dont know reason but id assume for the young guys could hitting NHL schedule grind awakening (not used to so many games with such intensity)
