Anyone else believe Shaw's 3,9M cap hit could've been used to give Radulov his contract from the get go !? And what about a guy named Zack Kassian who plays a similar type of game that we also had in the organization not so long ago !? Oh and what about the two second round picks we used to acquire this injury prone 4th liner !?

Shaw vs Radulov + Kassian + two 2nd round picks

Hated the trade from the start and now it's bitting us even harder. WTF was MB thinking !?

We had more than enough cap space to sign Radulov even with Shaw on the team. The two aren't connected at all. As for Kassian plus the picks, well, you probably have a point.

Shaw being a RW and costing 3.9 for a long time definitely weighed in on what they were willing to pay Radulov.

From an asset and cap management perspective, long term contracts doled out to mediocre or average players eventually prevent you from freeing up money to pay the top players. So in the end, the money that's not available to sign a Radulov, was indeed eaten up by a far less important asset.

Shaw will be fine as long as he gives up his fantasies about being a tough guy... He gets beat up and concussed every time. When he plays HOCKEY he actually scores goals and makes an impact. Shaw you're not tough and nobody is scared of you.. Believe me.

I kept an eye on shaw this training camp even though he had a roster spot locked up. As much as galchenyuk looked poor after his injury, so did shaw after his concussion.

I think shaw called last season the most difficult of his career (or something to that extent). Maybe he feels like he has something to prove, but I was quite happy with his form before the Krug incident, and I'll be happy again if he returns to it, let alone exceed it.

If he had a bad camp, I would still give him the benefit of the doubt just like the other vets, but it was nice to see positive things already.

He shouldn't fight anymore, he needs all of his brain power to play hockey... He's not a tough guy... Believe me.

Played another great game last night, as long as he keeps the dumb penalties to a minimum especially with the new crackdown he should be a great bottom-6 guy

Would love to see Shaw have a good season, he's gotten alot of hate since he became a Hab, despite playing last year with a concussion most of the time.

Really pulling for him to make some people eat some major crow

The hate he gets is 100% free. People who overbash him are all Eller fans who were frustrated with the sequence of trades they made last summer. All in all, Shaw even in a bad season was better than Eller ever was with Montreal, in addition to be younger and more versatile. Fast forward 18 months, Eller is a non factor in Washington and Shaw actually has some use here.

When Shaw keeps his temperament in check he's not that much different from Gallagher. Maybe a weaker shot but he could be a 20 goal scorer.

I hated Shaw with a passion last year. But gotta admit he's been dynamite in preseason. Let's reserve judgement until the regular season.

If you still have Kassian, you likely don't have Byron. We picked Byron on waivers because Kassian got hurt and a spot opened up on our roster. Not to mention that your revisionist hypothetical scenario isn't considering that maybe Kassian would never have worked in the type of city Montreal is and that Kassian needed to be somewhere like Edmonton at that time in his life ?

As for Radulov, we have 7,5M in cap space. Money wasn't the factor that prevented us from signing Radulov. Shaw has zero impact on Radulov. The fact you're trying to somehow put Radulov's absence on Shaw's presence is mind boggling....

Honestly, it's silly to amalgamate the three completely unrelated moves to make it appear as a bigger thing. Why needlessly obfuscate matters ? I don't get it.

On its own merit, the Shaw trade and subsequent signing are certainly questionable. But I really like what I've seen of Shaw under Julien (minus the part where played concussed). I will reserve judgement for another year. I wouldn't have made that trade personally, but if Shaw continues to play like he has lately, he'll certainly justify the price we paid to acquire and sign him.

I'll admit he has been playing much better lately, but his play still does not justify the ridiculous contract he has nor the trade. I don't hate Shaw that much, but I hate how Bergevin gave everything for a role player while comparing Radulov to a dog. And I'm far from being an Eller fanboy. Believe me.

From quotes I've read, things that were not said outright but implied, Shaw seemed like one of the players who hated Therrien the most. He certainly seems to really like to have Julien as a coach. I think when the season is over and we look at his production, we'll be pleasantly surprised at the numbers. Hopefully that makes us forget about those two 2nd round picks.

Gotta love Shaw. He brings a lot more than what this board spread all summer. Not by accident that he was a fan favourite in Chicago. If he stays healthy, we will never talk again about his contract.

Can't wait to see what DeBrincat and Girard do so that when people will still try to defend this trade, they'll eat some major crow. Yeah, Shaw had a good camp. So we will see how he keeps it going and IF he can stay healthy. Awesome to point out that he played with a concussions most of the time and pretend like it can not happen again....

That's some superior talent in establishing sophisms and demonstrating false logic. If you stage everything in life like this, I'm willing to bet you're always justified in your actions and are never wrong, whatever it is you do or think. That becomes borderline pathological if pushed to the extreme.

In a few seconds, I'm pretty sure you can make the argument for the earth being flat as well...
