We may be overrating Peeke at this point because he isn't screwing up as much as his fellow defensemen.

Most likely this.

He ranks 2nd to last among defenders on the team in on-ice save percentage, plus/minus and overall on the team he’s tied for 2nd in giveaways with Hampus Lindholm, only behind pastrnak.

For Peeke to be tied 2nd overall in turnovers with his TOI is pretty abysmal and really needs to be corrected to some degree. The puck is dynamite on his stick.

I will give him kudos on his Penalty kill play this year though only 5.6 goals against per 60 minutes on the PK is pretty good.

A yes. Another reliable addition people were wrong about.
i think the bigger issue with the trades sweeney makes are the returns. like peeke was a guy that was headed toward a buyout,
so giving up a 3rd rounder and taking on his full salary just seemed excessive. similar to korpisalo - you take on one of the worst
contracts in the NHL, you should be getting assets to do it (especially when your organization is void of assets). JMO. i like the
players.

This guy gets it. When evaluating a trade or signing, you have to consider 1. The player himself and 2. The contract signed/assumed/assets given up. Many fans focus only on the first part, but that is only part of the equation in a hard cap league.

I feel like what is lost all the time is it's a 3rd rounder years from now. It's not a valuable asset to have a chance to draft a guy in the 3rd round 3 years in the future.
