We may be overrating Peeke at this point because he isn't screwing up as much as his fellow defensemen.

Most likely this.

He ranks 2nd to last among defenders on the team in on-ice save percentage, plus/minus and overall on the team he’s tied for 2nd in giveaways with Hampus Lindholm, only behind pastrnak.

For Peeke to be tied 2nd overall in turnovers with his TOI is pretty abysmal and really needs to be corrected to some degree. The puck is dynamite on his stick.

I will give him kudos on his Penalty kill play this year though only 5.6 goals against per 60 minutes on the PK is pretty good.

A yes. Another reliable addition people were wrong about.
i think the bigger issue with the trades sweeney makes are the returns. like peeke was a guy that was headed toward a buyout,
so giving up a 3rd rounder and taking on his full salary just seemed excessive. similar to korpisalo - you take on one of the worst
contracts in the NHL, you should be getting assets to do it (especially when your organization is void of assets). JMO. i like the
players.

This guy gets it. When evaluating a trade or signing, you have to consider 1. The player himself and 2. The contract signed/assumed/assets given up. Many fans focus only on the first part, but that is only part of the equation in a hard cap league.

I feel like what is lost all the time is it's a 3rd rounder years from now. It's not a valuable asset today to have a chance to draft a guy in the 3rd round 3 years in the future, who might make an impact another 3 years after they are drafted if you're lucky

Ppl keep saying this but what’s the evidence for this besides one persons speculation?

If you get a player of Andrew Peeke level out of the third round it's a grand slam. Very cheap price for a solid NHL defenseman.

Facts is facts, he's been one of our better D men this year and seems to be playing even better under Sacco. @2.5M for a good D Man is cheap
People forget he was a 2nd'r(right around where Carlo was picked) that played well his first 2 years until CBS just start sewer dwelling

Hope Carlo can be traded and he can slot in as our 2RD long term. Get some scoring for Brandon.

Ideally you get an elite offense guy for 3RD that leads PP1 and takes McAvoy off it. Karlsson 50% retained would be ideal.

If we gave up a third for him I'm sure they're would have been another taker to at least offer a late pick. Cbus was terrible though and probably looking for a forward.

Great point.

Just to show how much of a crapshoot the draft is, Peeke was drafted high 2nd round (34th overall) in 2016 draft. Bruins drafted Ryan Lindgren (49), basically a left shooting Peeke. In the 3rd round, where there wasn't much left, Calgary drafted Adam Fox, who would win the Norris Trophy 5 years later. So the Flames stepped in it. But they still didn't know what they had and made him part of a deal that sent Fox (along with Dougie Hamilton) to the Hurricanes while he was still in college. Not to be outdone, the Hurricanes traded him to the Rangers

Every now and then teams hit legit gold in round three: Brad, Brayden Point, Fox. You also see teams tend to persist with third rounders a bit longer than lower draft rounds, so more will get looks, but most still end up not making it, or becoming fringe players. Bruins 3rd round hits since Brad (when they've had one) are Grizz and Grizz. Maybe one of the more recent guys becomes something, but the odds are against it.

I'm a Peeke fan, but if he's on your 2nd pair you're going to be having a bad time....

If he plays this way and he was for sale at the deadline, there would be a line out the door to pay only a future third. Fact.
Add in that RHD are rare as is, when I looked last year there were about 70ish that actually played 20+ games.

Not a single soul who ripped him will give Sweeney props though if Peeke keeps this up sadly.

It's hilarious because if Boston writers said something similar everyone would be skeptical, but it's all of a sudden gospel if another team's beat writer puts something like that out

Nah. Defensively he's a 2nd pair guy. Ference/Boychuk territory IMO.

He's better with the puck than Carlo as well.

Carlos regression and us having such a crappy 2D is one of the reasons this season hasn't gone well.
Both Ference & Boychuk were much much better players than Peeke.

Zadorov/Peeke is a lovely third pairing.

Agreed on Carlo though, guys been mega lost this year.
