2013 NHL Entry Draft Picks

3|One Selection|
4|Two Selections, Carolina's Pick|
5|Two Selections, New Jersey's Pick|
6|One Selection|
7|Two Selections, Dallas' Pick|

We swapped 7th rounders with Dallas in the last draft. Traded them our 7th in 2012 for their 7th in 2013.

From 2013 Draft's Wiki page:

The Dallas Stars' seventh-round pick will go to the Los Angeles Kings as the result of a trade on June 23, 2012 that sent Edmonton's seventh-round pick in 2012 to Dallas in exchange for this pick.[25]

I have a hard time understanding this. How was Edmonton involved?

Well...not OUR 7th...but the one we got with Fraser in the Smyth deal... So this deal keeps on giving...

Well, yeah :P But it is our seventh once they give it to us :P But obviously, the Kings' pick was the last of the draft, which gave us Ebert.

I had a feeling as I was typing that someone would bring that up, probably should have elaborated that we had multiple 7th round picks.

I can't believe this deal has reached 7 pages on the trade & free agent board. Devils fans saying he should center the 3rd line or play wing. Two spots where he should not be playing.

Well, apparently the Devils don't have grit lines like we do. They run multiple scoring lines, and then distribute grit across all of them equally. It would be like putting King with Kopitar, Nolan with Richards, etc etc... So they have a combination of grit and skill across the lines. They also say that they put their bottom 6 out against weaker competition and their top 6 our against tougher competition, i.e. they match the lines. Just a different system.

So Kevin Westgarth is worth more than Loktionov? Bizarre.

Even though we're without a 1st rounder, I do like the fact that we've gotten more picks for this upcoming draft. The farm system has thinned out a lot recently, and is due for a bit of a reloading.

Still, Loktionov was a 5th round pick himself, so we got a 5th rounder for a 5th rounder. Would have liked to move up from that slightly. Even a 4th rounder would have been good.

Is Bud Holloway and Oscar Moller still Kings property?

Yeah, but they will likely have their rights silently expire. Like Loktionov, their value as players matters little versus their availability to the NHL versus their willingness to go back to the AHL. Not many teams are going to just hand them a NHL job. More than likely they would be put on a farm team first.

Better than just completely giving him away for nothing like we did Hickey.

Exactly! Or seeing him go to Russia/not resigning him at the end of the season when his contract is up. It's not like he was the leading scorer in Manchester. The kid wasn't producing a ton in the AHL. IMO, he's been a disappointment down there, too. I hope he makes it, but I'm not so sure he will. Every time he came up it seemed like he would get hurt. He needs to build muscle and be a little more versatile. Most successful NHL players can adapt to their surroundings and Lokti couldn't.

Wonder if Voynov is affected by this. Anyone know if they were best friends when they were teammates in Manchester?

Voynov and Kopi are our only European players. Safe to assume we have the least European players in the league.

Exactly, Nick Shore will be a top six player, That kid has sick hands, vision.

I was a Huge Loki Homer, but the kid didn't do anything with his chances, he could not play wing either.

Linden Vey is what the Kings wanted Loki to be. A 200ft Center , that hits, has vision, scores, and can play all THREE forward spots.

I don't know if Shore is top 6 material yet, but he does have a lot of untapped potential. He's another Lombardi mid round gem. I think he can be a good 3c guy at the NHL level.
