Yeah that could be interpreted a couple ways. Either they're fighting for ONE spot, or they're both fighting for A spot. I don't necessarily buy that they're in a head-to-head competition for the last spot.

It definitely sounds like this is what he means.

I don't see why a coach would pigeon-hole himself into more limited roster decisions before he has even seen all his guys play.

So much for Lias playing the world championship... At least he is playing very nicely when given the opportunity.
Reads to me like he means they're both very young and are trying to make the team, not that they're both competing against one another for a single spot. That'd make a lot more sense since they're really not the same type of players even skill level aside.

They are completely different players. I don't think they are both competing for one last spot. With their upside, the status they hold already at a young age etc, they could definitely both be picked with others dropping.

Nilsson, Norman and Zackrisson aren't locks in my opinion

looks like Chytil line got very little ice the first two periods until the coach realized that his two best players were on the fourth line and gave them almost 10 mins in the third. Good for both Chytil and Zadina.

Also, they played the last PP of the game. At least the coach saw the light, it's refreshing after years watching AV chewing on the bench.

A coach that adapts or at least realizes what to do if things are going wrong?

My goodness...

Yeah, good catch, and coincidentally in Swedish the word for "a" spot is the same as for "one" spot... ;)

So in this context: "Lias och Petterson slåss om en plats i VM-laget" -- 'en plats' is ambiguous and can mean both "a spot" or "one spot".

As previously mentioned, there is a gentlemens agreement between the national teams and NHL teams to not bring over NHL players to the WCH's unless they are sure that they will make the roster. You hurry their department from the NHL teams. In Lias case, Grönborg contacted the NYR and asked if it was OK to bring Lias over despite not guaranteeing him a spot. I do hope he has done the same with at least Jacob De La Rose and Johan Larsson.

I will hold on to the fact that Lias was in line for a spot on the Olympic roster before the Rangers decided to assign him to HFD, and hope it means he is on the WC roster next week.

it wouldn't kill lias or chytil to go home and get some rest at this point. both have had a whirlwind year. Rest up then start rebuilding. chytil needs to add muscle and lias needs to get with a skating instructor the sooner the better. of course would like to see them both in this tourney but again wouldn't hurt either on of them at this point to go rest up and get ready to start training for the varsity

Yeah I am thinking the same thing. The seasons these kids have are so long.

Yeah. Plus his primary assist which was basically a secondary assist because OEL skated for 2 seconds before shooting haha

Now he's a defenseman I'd love to see (and can actually imagine seeing) in Rangers Blue. But that's a statement for a separate thread. ;)
