UNIONDALE, N.Y. — Anders Lee was happy to be back on Long Island prior to the start of Saturday night’s contest prior to the Islanders 7-5 win over Dallas. He was even happier following the contest in which he scored his first goal of the season.

“It’s nice,” Lee said with a smile talking about the goal. “Anytime you get the first one out of the way it gets the season rolling a little bit, It makes you stop thinking about it, but it was a good play by the boys and I was able to capitalize.”

I recently picked Lee up on my pool - will he be getting top 6 or PP duties with the Isles?

Judging from this thread, the expectations for him this season seems quite lofty.

He already got PP time in his first 2 games this seasons, and I expect this will continue. Regarding his production, much remains to be seen in a month or so when Bailey and Grabner are healthy. He could then end anyware from Tavares LW tp Bridgeport (tough if he continues his strong play it is very unlikely) if the Conacher lovefest continues (ugh).

He's on the first unit. His job is to be in front of the goalie.

The kid knows how to score, and has scored at every level (including in his limited time in the NHL).

The Islanders haven't had a player like him - who knows to go directly to the front of the net - in as long as I can remember. He also has good hands for a guy in his role. He is very adept at re-directing and deflecting the puck (his goal on Saturday was a perfect re-direct) and is pretty much immovable. He is the type of guy who relishes contact and the physical aspect of the game.

I took a look to see if he fought in BP last year, not because I'm looking for him to drop the gloves (although its nice to have a non-goon who will drop them on occasion) but more to see how willing he was. He had 5 bouts - which is about what I expected.

In his short stint here, he seems like he belongs and I suspect he will only improve as he gets more experience.

What type of production do you guys think Lee could realistically put up this and next season, and what do you think his top end potential would be?

You need to ask this question to the worst coach in the NHL. If there is a way to miscast/misuse players Capuano has already wrote the book.

Because he missed the first 5 games? You won't even remember this in February. Lee is getting his chance, and we all agree that he should have started on the team. Oh well, it was 5 games. He is on a line where he can do damage. He doesn't belong on PP1 because Nelson is better in his spot. Maybe PP2 to run something similar? Otherwise, how else do you want to use him?

Remember, this is a team that got chastised for bringing along players too early. We give a guy 5 games in the AHL and he's misused so badly that there is a book on it?

So what type of production do you see Anders Lee contributing long term. Is he a 60 point player, a 40 point player, a 20 point player?

I'm an outsider who would really like to know how islanders fans see Lee this season and long term.

10 minutes TOI, Capuano isn't helping his development would rather see him down in BP tbh if he's only going to be regulated to bottom 6 minutes.

It honestly irks me that Conacher is getting 4, 5, 6 more mins a night then someone like Lee, Strome, or even Clutterbuck.

This year I would think anywhere from 40 to 60 points if he stays on the second line. Much will of course determined by how the team plays of course. As has been said, we have better option on PP1 than him, so he should be getting some PP2 time.

I think Lee needs to be on the #1PP in lieu of Brock. What this PP needs is someone to be in front of the net at all times and it seems like Lee has a magnet that brings him there. Nelson wants to play on the perimeter too, which is fine, but with JT and KO already there, that's not what we need. There were too many times when someone had the puck in the slot and there was no blue sweater anywhere near the crease.

Lee is the perfect complement to the other guys - they should stick with him.

The PP is not a problem they are fifth in the league, only time it didn't look good is when they didn't have Boychuk and Nelson out there, there is no one on the team that is better than Nelson in front of the net.

Time to send him down? We have lots of guys fighting for a spot and Anders Lee just isn't producing. He has had lots of time. What do you think?

As per the other thread:

No. Who is replacing him? He's a player who is still effective when he's not scoring. He's the anti-Conacher. Plus, he's not playing on the top line with Tavares or getting 1PP time...I'm not surprised he's had lower stats.

I guess the theory is when Grabner comes back somebody has to be benched

He is getting a lot of shots to the net, especially for a guy not getting consistent PP time. He is 7th amongst all forwards on the team in shots on net, despite only playing in 12 games. His shooting percentage is an extremely low 6.5%, which among forwards with even 1 goal, only Clutterbuck and Conacher have a lower percentage.

The kid is simply snakebit right now. He's playing well, puck just hasn't been falling for him so far. Sooner or later, it will even out. I hope we don't send home down before that happens, especially with how well his line has been playing.

starting to notice Lee's defensive game a bit more. maybe it's just that i'm looking for it, but it seems that he is getting better at it.

hopefully Cappy is pounding it into them, that EVERYONE needs to play a 200 foot game, if we are going to have any success in the PO's.

definitely send Conacher down when Grabner is back. keep Martin as the 13th F, and rotate the bottom 4 if everyone is healthy.
