And then pay a cop billion dollars
Hey Marshy , your a grizzled vet here in this land of Oz on this forum ...
This might be a rookie question , the music album thread I posted from yesterday is gone and wiped out including everyone’s comments ...
Do you think I violated any rules again ?
Or can I not post anything that’s not hockey related ? I have in the past and also have participated in some as well ?
I didn’t get a warning or anything ?
Just wondering if you or anyone know the possibilities?
Thanks

These were some fantastic seasons no? Andersen was 10th in the NHL in GSAA in 2018-2019, 12th the year before, and 13th the year before.

Not Vezina calibre, but I've read a lot of takes suggesting Andersen was no better than average (not from you), and I really don't think that's the case.
I guess it depends on what your bar for "fantastic" is, 10th in a league with 31 starters I would call that above average, especially when you consider GSAA is a cumulative stat so games played makes a big difference so his heavy workload boosts that rank up a bit (Jack Campbell was 7th in GSAA in only 25 starts that season, just an interesting note).

On that note, to be fair to Freddy we asked a lot of him, more than the average starter was asked in terms of starts and saves for most of his tenure and up until last year he gave average-ish to above average performance. I think you should be satisfied with that as a Leafs fan but this commonly held notion that Freddy was a incredible goalie who carried a porous Leafs team on his back for years just isn't based in reality.

10th-13th seems to be precisely a "slightly bove average" starting goalie, no?

Yeah fair enough, but during that same span in terms of start volume and shots against he was also extremely high up there. It was an extremely difficult role given the volume and quality of chances he faced.

This isn't to say Andersen is a good goalie now, I just think that there's a lot of "I always knew he was a bad goalie!" going on right now and it isn't entirely warranted. At least in the regular season.

I also think xG underrated how poor the Leafs defensively were, because anecdotally I recall a lot of cross seam and cross ice passes that aren't reflected in xG the way they should be. But totally anecdotal.

If we go to 3on3 vs the Jets, put Spezza with Matthews. Still have the creativity without the boneheaded jr. Hockey crap. Marner has been doing this in OT for years. Marner and Andersen have cost the team a ton of points in OT, not that tonight matters.
I'm pretty confident 3v3 in the playoffs will not happen in any series let alone ours. And to be honest I see where you are coming from because it looks so bad when Auston and Mitch get butt f***ed in 3 on 3, but they are our best chance to win any game in any situation. Didn't work out for us last night, or even the last 2 OT's. But I'll bet on those guys vs. Norris and Tkchuck any f***ing day of the week. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

sorry I misread your comment, you said Jets not Canadiens. My bad. Still early here in Van lol

This is exactly my opinion. The dancing on his grave stuff is just a bit too much for me, which is why I defend him a bit.

Hey I wouldn't be surprised to see him bounce back next year or in a couples years. I also wouldnt be surprised if he was toast.

At his best he was a good goalie, not a great one. Then last year he was below average and now this year he'll legit awful. I don't like the trend at all but many decent goalies have bounced down and then back up again over their careers.

I disputed leafs fans when they called him elite his first few years....and I've actually defended keeping Andy in the picture as a backup this year....but man has he made even that tough to do lately.

Thanks Brothas and sisters
Oh well ..

Lmao some things never change. Blind pass by Marner, Rielly can’t defend the 2 on 1, Andersen can’t make the big save. Like clockwork.

I cannot understand it. Just stay in the lane and do not allow pass across to go through. Leave shooter to the goalie. It's ridiculous.

Leafs spent time working on the PP this past week, and it looked like Ottawa and in particular Connor Brown had the advantage when the Leafs were up a man.

He had 5-6 SH shots on goal as well as scoring SH to offset Leafs PP goal.

Something like this needs to be cleaned up come playoff time.

Do you remember what they used last year? Before that I remember it was largely a lefty bumper and Lefty screen which opened up a soft dump to keep possession if the shot wasn't there think Kadri/JVR and Kadri/JT.
Last year we used the loaded up unit from this year, but Marner and Matthews were switched

Should have thrown in Kerfoot instead of Brown in the Zaitzev deal. Thinking/hoping Hyman gets similar deal to Brown (21 goals) with more money up front and perhaps an extra year. 4x4 max.

Only the 1st one was unstoppable. Need to make a tough stop once in a while. And both the 2nd and 3rd goals had him all over the crease and out of position which is clearly his biggest problem. OT goal was him doing his belly flop. Maybe not his fault but just being square to the shooter would have been preferable.
I give Fred the benefit of the doubt on the TO goal....

With Mo trying to defend a 2 on 1, it might as well have been a 2 on 0 breakaway.

I miss Connor Brown. He just does everything right. Such a smart player. God damn salary cap, f***ing us out of keeping our good draft picks :thumbd:

It's interesting, I just went back and checked some clips out of curiosity.

When Marner had success on the right, it was usually with AJ for Nylander or both Matthews and Tavares on the right side with him last year.

That takes the focus away from his shot, which we know isn't great.

Feels like loading up the offhands on the big 4 is the play here IMO.

He's isn't good at defending the 2 on 1 in general, but he really had no chance on that one. Way too much time and space to effectively take the pass away.

Wow, so a 2-on-1 goal is considered “soft”? After a boneheaded play by one of our players. He could have had it, but it wasn’t “soft”.

Only way a goalie stops the first goal is if he is lucky. At the moment the only luck Andy has is bad.

The 2nd and 3rd goals were the ones he could/should have stopped.

He would be a great player to keep but also bear in mind he's making the most of an opportunity he wouldn't have in Toronto. He's getting top line minutes, and PP opportunities galore all with a career high shooting percentage.

Great PKer, hard worker, and he'll have a nice career though.
