I survived the double decade of darkness (Czechs and oilers legitmately sucked for 15 years at the same time.lol) and I gotta tell you.. I remember those Oiler's West Coast swings and you guys, LA and SJ would all play to 50% while we killed ourselves only to lose constantly. So I'll take all these ugly half assed wins because I was the victim of them for so long.lol Czechs were no different.. they'd hustle and hustle and hustle and lose to nations just kind of putting in enough to put us away. I even wrote an article on how many backups the OIlers faced (and lost) too.lol We were the team you pull out your backup for.haha

Hope Gibson's okay. Noticed he didn't finish last night.

Feel free to laugh but I'm not sure I do Skinner for Gibson straight up at this point.

If we can't do better than Gibson, then we can dream of getting a better goalie on another season.

"Lateral move at best" infers a zero percent chance that Gibson could provide steadier goaltending than Skinner, which is an indefensible stance IMO.

Not saying OP's offer makes sense, nor am I making any guarantees about how Gibson would fare in Edmonton - but the odds of him being better than Skinner are greater than zero.

Maybe greater than zero but Oilers fans are paranoid about Skinner, and don't realize what they have. Gibson could be just as streaky being similarly hung out to dry by a lack of skater focus without the puck and Skinner could go on a tear on a new team with a greater focus on team defensive responsibility.

Oilers fans expect another goalie to come in on a sub $5M contract and make all the tough saves on wide open looks that our team gives up, which is not realistically possible.

Yeah it seems like it takes very little track record of success in order for a goalie to get paid these days. Just not realistic to expect good + consistent + cheap/risk free all in one goalie, a concession would have to be made on one of those.

Edmonton gives up the fewest high danger chances in the league per 60 minutes. Oiler fans need to watch more hockey around the league. It's the goalie's job to stop the high danger chances.
