Let’s not overcomplicate things. Gibson @ 50% for EDM 1st round pick. Who says no?

I just don't see enough teams being interested in Gibson to just straight up warrant a 1st round pick, even at 50%. Here is my opinion on who needs help at the goaltending position

Teams with no/low interest in Gibson:

CGY
CHI
COL
DAL
FLA
LAK
MIN
MTL
NSH
NYI
NYR
OTT
SEA
SJS
TBL
TOR
UTA
VAN
VGK
WPG
WSH

Teams with potential interest in Gibson (would require cap gymnastics):

BOS - Would have to move Swayman out which I don't think they do after giving him that massive contract.
BUF - They have the cap but not sure thats how they want to spend it with UPL/Levi being their future tandem but Kevin Adams might do something stupid.
CBJ - Would have to move Elvis out and I don't see Anaheim wanting him back unless its 0 retention (which lowers the assets coming back)
PIT - Would have to move Jarry who is a dump and likely aren't pushing for the playoffs
STL - Would have to move Binnington out and I think hes the guy.

Teams with moderate interest:

CAR - If they think Andersen will be injured again, they might not want insurance
EDM - Upgrade on Pickard
DET - If Detroit thinks the can push for a spot (which they aren't likely to do) the would have to dump a contract back the other way.
NJD - Markstrom is injured but he's their guy. Not sure they want someone with that much term
PHI - Not in a playoff spot but they would have to dump Fedotov/Ersson

PV hasn’t really showed he’s willing to come down on Gibson price.

I’d prob need some sort of conditions on picks to make it more intriguing for Anaheim

What if that second is changed to a conditional 1st in 2026 with the conditions being Edmonton makes it to the Stanley Cup finals in either this season or next season and Gibson appears in half the games? I think conditions like that are still allowed.

Haha I forget the rules but something like that would work

Yep, this about sums up the market. I think Utah is a darkhorse if they feel like Vejmelka isn't the guy long-term (or he won't extend) but otherwise it comes down to Carolina and Edmonton.

FWIW I expect Carolina to be the team that gets it done, they have such a clear need in net and can offer up more of a "hockey trade" with Andersen and a veteran forward plus a B prospect/pick. I don't think Oilers management will be motivated enough, and will stumble into the playoffs with Skinner + Pickard again despite all the evidence painting them as inadequate at best.

It doesn't really matter what other teams are interested if Gibson isn't willing to waive his NMC to them, this will hurt his trade value and don't see a trade anywhere near the OP value
We don't know if Gibson will waive or not. I know in the past he has said he doesn't want to, but he's the backup/1B on a rebuilding team now. One that likely won't be a playoff team until his current contract is over. If he wants to go to a playoff team where he has the chance to earn a starter's job again, Edmonton is a good location to go for him. If he is afraid of Canadian winters, or doesn't want to leave the US at all though, he won't waive for Edmonton.

Not many goalies go for a first, and I'm not sure how much extra value the retention gives, as Gibson isn't worth his current cap hit at all. I don't mind going after Gibson, but I'm not sure if he has the value that is being discussed in this thread.

I've always said I'd be fine with Gibson and think he's good. I'd rather target dostal though.

Nonetheless.. Gibson for Pickard is the play and keep Stu. No idea what that costs though. I don't think Gibson has sky high value though.

I think Dostal is about as untouchable as it gets with Anaheim. I don't see any reason why they would move him. We can dream though, ha ha.

Totally agree.. that's why I pivoted back to Gibson. However.. if we are serious about a cup we need a Finn and a Czech for our run.lol.

I really would be fine with Gibson and Stu though going into playoffs. Or Stu and Vejmelka. Or Stu and ingrim. You get the idea.. going forward I am still high on Rodrigue. But not for this playoffs lol

We have the Finn. Kapanen is Finnish.

I don't think Ingram is going to happen. He's Utah's only goalie signed for next year, and he's affordable, which works well for a team that is still building a fanbase and revenue.

I know Kap is Finish.. Halfway there!

Now add Vej.

Utah also has hrabal in the pipe.. years away but he seems to be quite promising.
