Anaheim gets Ehlers.......On ELC will be affordable 1st line Lw for many years.

Winnipeg gets Theodore.......Nhl ready and perfect 2nd pair d till he's ready for 1st pair d.

Certainly covers both teams needs. Ehlers played 1st line Lw with Shiefele and Wheeler......looks to be a point producer that will only get better. His ceiling was 8.5 and looks to be there before Theodore reaches his 8.0 ceiling.

IMO the whole LHD need of the Jets is a bit over stated assuming we sign Trouba. Trouba signs were fine:

Trouba Buff
Toby Myers
Josh M Postma/Chariot

Why do we need to trade away a top forward player to get a prospect?

Only way we need to trade for a LHD at this point is if Trouba is traded, then yes we need a LHD back. But Trouba will be signed b/c he has no choice.

Just a question -- why are you using HF's rating system to evaluate a prospect -- ratings that haven't been updated in the last year?

Also, I wouldn't mind Ehlers at all, but not at the price of Theo. Not to say that Ehlers isn't worth Theodore, but Lindholm and Theodore down the left side is a lot more surefire than Larsson, who's only entering his draft+2 year. If Larsson does develop into a top 4 defenseman and Theodore coming off his ELC begins to cramp our cap space, then we can look into trading Theodore then. Fowler should be the only LHD we have on the trading block right now. (other than Stoner lel) Our forward depth in terms of youth is a bit sketchy, but a guy like Ehlers isn't going to save our franchise's future from the wing (our issue is a lack of young high-potential centermen; if Rakell and Silfverberg continue to develop we should be at least serviceable on the wings). Him being cost-effective is nice, but I'd rather go for Spooner from Boston; he'd come much cheaper and still would be able to shore up our depth. (our top 6 is fine, we just lack anybody notable in our bottom 6 outside of Vermette and maybe Garbutt)

Fowler is UFA in two years and he might want to test free agency so we want to keep Theodore who could replace him if needed so no interest in trading Theodore like this.

I understand that Anaheim fans would not want to move Theodore. But I don't see the argument for Ehlers and Theodore being the same the same value right now. Ehlers proved himself over the whole season. Theodore played about a quarter of the season. There would have to be an add from Anaheim

Theodore is absolutely going nowhere, Fowler is the one that's most likely to get dealt and Anaheim will need him. Fowler, Bieksa and Stoner will be the ones that Bob Murray tries to move not a young D-man like Theodore.

Theo won't be moved until one of the following happens:

Fowler is re-signed long term.

Larsson shows he's NHL ready.

Neither will happen for at least a year so Theo isn't going anywhere.

Theo played 82 games, while Ehlers played in 72. Not sure where you're getting your numbers. 25 in ANA, 57 in SD. He also outscored Ehlers, 50 to 38 as a defenseman..

Why are we counting AHL numbers? Ehlers has a larger sample proving how well he can play at the NHL level.

Just to clarify my logic. Ana needs a top line LW and budget wise Ehlers qualifies. Giving up a huge asset like Theo is possible with the defensive pipeline that Ana has. Ana has nothing like Ehlers in the system and when and if they do it'll be after Getz and Perry's best days.

The Jets will be introducing 2-4 offensive players starting now and over the next year. Laine will be Ehlers equal......Conner/Petan/Dano/Armia/etc etc give our top 9 plenty of weapons. What we don't have is D depth especially on the left side, Theo provides it.

All due respect, but Ehlers & Connor in the lineup enables the Jets to dress three scoring lines, which is Maurice's goal per an interview on TSN this past summer. The Jets are finally building depth upfront and you want to trade a key piece of that right away, our 1LW yet that played on a line that was dynamite over the final 25 games???? Morrissey fills an LHD spot and no trade is needed. Poolman will likely sign at the end of the season. Niku comes over soon after that, etc.

You forgot to count the 2 beer league games in Winnipeg ehlers played where he put up 35 points....

As a Jet's fan, I don't mind this trade. Is Theodore's upside a number 1 LD or am I overrating him? If he became that good, it would allow Wpg to move Trouba back to RD, and trade Myers

Jets have so much winger depth, and nothing on defense, after Morrissey. Wouldn't mind the trade at all. But Ehlers value at this point is more than Theodores
