Ducks in a row
Go Ducks Quack Quack
991 games played with the Ducks and gets traded away for that return yeah I ain't happy about this trade at all.
We actually have no idea how low a price, or how high a price, other teams were offering. This position is just as much conjecture as the other.
All we know is that Verbeek was willing to put in a high bid so he won. We do not know if it needed to be a fraction of what he gave up, or if he just squeaked across the finish line.
does anyone know anything about this biakabutuka kid? other than the fact that his uncle was an NFL RB?

Taking him for future considerations at full price or sending a player or sending a pick were all better than waivers. Actually putting him on waivers would be very bad for their future contracts, the fact that they threatened will be too.We at least have evidence that suggests we had to make an offer more enticing than just losing him on waivers to Columbus. I really don't think the "Pat bid against himself" crowd have any evidence to back that up.
Agreed, was also something talked about long. Score his 1000 game was in question. The bottom line is Fowler wanted a change and Verbeek wanted to move him. I don’t doubt playing for Cronin had some influence on Cam waiving his NTC and going to the Blues.
I don’t think Verbeek would threaten to waive Cam. He accommodated Thrun when he didn’t have to.

Columbus (2), Detroit, Dallas, Seattle, Ottawa, Chicago have been those seven wins, only one of those teams was above .500 at the time or currently sit in a playoff spot. We did play better during that stretch but it was also a bit of a softer stretch in the schedule. I recall posting that we had a bunch of potentially winnable games coming up.
Columbus was offering most likely nothing, they were getting him for free. He’s not an 8M player.
I read that as - they gave him a list all at once and said “pick”, not that they went one by one.Columbus NEEDS to obtain cap for floor reasons even more than we do. An 8m AAV guy who only makes 6m real dollars, with only 1 more year of term, who can actually play and contribute is a good get for a floor team. And they must have known that if someone offered even a little something like we did, that he would never make it to waivers, in which case they don't get him at all. So I guarantee you they offered SOMETHING. Next year's floor is likely to be around 70m ... they only have around 47m committed. It's not so easy to just conjure up 23m in AAV. It's why a Gibson trade is far from a given for us, and why retaining on Cam was almost a certainty.
And according to Trouba himself, from the Cbus Dispatch:
“There were multiple teams and things were kind of evolving pretty fluidly,” Trouba said.
That he was asked and refused on several other teams suggests that there were real offers on the table from those teams. Any surprise that at least two mentioned (Jackets and Sabres) are currently projected to be under the floor for next year?
The fact that Trouba was asked by the Rangers if he'd go to those places and he turned those down, before eventually getting to us, suggests that the offers from those teams might have actually been PREFERRED by the Rangers (and thus likely better), otherwise why wouldn't the Rangers have asked him about waiving for us first and never getting to those other teams?

Agreed. My point was that we have no idea what the other offers actually were. Verbeek may have overpaid dramatically, or have squeaked across the line.I guess it's not entirely clear. If I were them I might be negotiating with multiple teams, but I'll present each one as it comes up so I'm not wasting my time finalizing 4 other possible trades if the first one I reach an agreement with is acceptable.
Nevertheless the point stands that there were other offers ... I don't think the Rangers were presenting him with options for teams that they had no agreements with, when they had a real offer from another.
Why oh why you gotta take the positive out of the room?Columbus (2), Detroit, Dallas, Seattle, Ottawa, Chicago have been those seven wins, only one of those teams was above .500 at the time or currently sit in a playoff spot.
