does anyone know anything about this biakabutuka kid? other than the fact that his uncle was an NFL RB?

We actually have no idea how low a price, or how high a price, other teams were offering. This position is just as much conjecture as the other.

All we know is that Verbeek was willing to put in a high bid so he won. We do not know if it needed to be a fraction of what he gave up, or if he just squeaked across the finish line.

I think Verbeek was bidding against himself, but the Rangers didn't tell him. Just my opinion, but it should be as valid as other opinions since we have no idea that transpired.

On a tangent, I do know that Verbeek did try to ship Fowler off to the Rangers. That failed, but it was also leaked that Fowler was potentially part of a trade transaction. That, to me, was free advertising that Fowler is available. I thought it was odd at the time to see that Fowler potential trade leak and said it was bad form. Man, it feels like mafia style of doing things except Verbeek is bad at valuations. There is no Dr. Evil's #2 to tell Verbeek the appropriate value in today's terms.

Seems like an opportunity to get a pretty sweet Biakabatuka ECHL jersey

We at least have evidence that suggests we had to make an offer more enticing than just losing him on waivers to Columbus. I really don't think the "Pat bid against himself" crowd have any evidence to back that up.

Taking him for future considerations at full price or sending a player or sending a pick were all better than waivers. Actually putting him on waivers would be very bad for their future contracts, the fact that they threatened will be too.

Columbus was offering most likely nothing, they were getting him for free. He’s not an 8M player. There are degrees, it not just extremes everyone is making it.

The bottom line is Fowler wanted a change and Verbeek wanted to move him. I don’t doubt playing for Cronin had some influence on Cam waiving his NTC and going to the Blues.

I don’t think Verbeek would threaten to waive Cam. He accommodated Thrun when he didn’t have to.

Agreed, was also something talked about long. Score his 1000 game was in question.

So no reason to be upset that he didn’t get it in Anaheim, sounds like it wasn’t something that was very important to him.
