That’s the reverse of what usually happens though. The prospect usually has the add to get the established NHL player. If Gauthier turns out to be top 6 instead of top line we lose this trade.
Conversely, if Jamie suffers a few more big injuries and never really meets his potential in that scenario, it either balances out or tips things in Anaheim's favor. Not that I'm rooting for that to happen.

Likely and indication of the interest in Cutter. If you see a hole that you can plus while having other assets that you believe can fill the hole you're going to create, you do it.
Sure, just not sure I've seen enough from Luneau to say he fills the hole.

Also feels like they got an idea who they are picking #3 to #5 in the draft.
Levshunov is probably gonna be a Duck unless they win the lottery and pick Celebrini.

After what Philly went thru with Nolan Patrick they are betting on another injury prone player who was drafted top6 in the draft.

Zell too, and Minty. Then you figure this team is going to be picking high again in the next draft with a few good looking D prospects. It's a risk, but Drysdale had some risk too with his injuries. Those could be a fluke, they could turn into a pattern.

Beeker had to look at addressing their weaknesses and Anaheim has been pretty good at drafting Dmen.

I guess I should give props to Pat for at least making a trade for a high potential player, and not a project. Dry was probably our most complete of the young D, but the injury history has to be a huge concern for the org and we have prospects that can replace his playstyle. I also wonder if the contract holdout had any impact as well.

It’s hard to know exactly how injury prone he is without knowing what his actual injury was. Maybe his shoulder is actually thrashed.

Why was he so set on not signing in Philly.

Briere claimed he didn't know why, but it sounds like he had some specific beef with the organization. I posted a clip a page or two ago of him in an old podcast saying he became good friends with Kevin Hayes. Then, shortly after, Hayes was getting thrown in the doghouse by the organization and they dumped him in St. Louis in the offseason (this happened after the podcast). No clue if that's related, but it seems like something.

Here's another thing. I think everyone expected this team to be better this year, but given different circumstances, they are accepting this year for what it is. Now you add a top 5 pick that you expect to play next season, you are looking at another top 5(ish) pick and you got your prospects developing in SD. This could be the last season anyone accepts a subpar year. If they don't see significant growth next season, there could be heads on the chopping block. Doesn't mean playoffs or bust next season, but I can't see ownership being ok with these results next season as well.

We have 1.5 seasons before there is progress or major shake-ups across the board

Maybe he hates people who hate Santa.
I know I do

Seems like the common knock on Cutter is low hockey IQ. That seems antithetical to the type of player GMPV has been targeting. Hope he has seen enough of him to make the right call.
