The other thread got locked, but I'll repeat what I said there....

Trouba has to be furious, right? Wife is still a Dr in NY and that was one of the key reasons for the original move to NY? And they just had a baby earlier this year?

He should have taken less money in exchange for a full NMC.

It sucks, but he won't be the first player whose personal life is inconvenienced by a trade. It's part of the pros and cons of being a pro athlete. You can't reasonably be married to one area, unless you have the leverage or willingness to make significant consolations to stay there.

Nothing would have stopped him from mutually voiding his contract with the Rangers and signing with the Adirondack Thunder. Or going to the Devils or Islanders on a PTO last offseason.

The Rangers did nothing wrong here. Threatening to waive him isn't unethical. They know that he will get claimed and they value the cap space more than where he fits in their lineup.

I mean, that's not the Rangers problem...he doesn't have an NMC.

No, they definitely didn't do anything wrong. He definitely had other outs. If detroit was on the table earlier this year, he should have taken that deal 100%. That's a hell of a lot more manageable.

I'm assuming the Finn sucks and he's just a warm body? So essentially some sort of pick and that guy for Trouba. No retention or anything?

If so, seems like Trouba had value around the NHL.

Fans continue to not believe that NHL teams value players like Trouba more than they do.

Did something happen? was he that bad?
to trade your captain who seemed to still be an NHL level player seems crazy
