Connolly while not playing up to his 4.w/e contract is still a decent player that can be an injury fillin and play well in any position. he's solid defensively and decent offensively, I could see him being a guy a team needing a vet forward might be interested in at the deadline so I see no reason to buy him out.

We would still have the cap hit anyways. This is for the player's benefit not the team's..

Opening up the roster spot for a better player most certainly helps the team.

Hypothetically speaking, if Phaneuf, Liles, Gardiner, Rielly, Franson, Holzer and Gunnarson are all higher on the depth chart than Komi, I wanna see him bought out so that he doesn't take a spot on this roster he wouldn't have otherwise earned.

Komi's NMC guarantees a spot on the team even if he hasn't earned it.

As far as Connolly and Lombardi are concerned, these guys don't have NMCs so this buyout option doesn't apply to them. We can simply waive or trade those guys.

Komisarek had a better season last year. His cap hit doesn't affect our team whatsoever. As soon as we buy him out, another team will sign him. He needs to stay on the leafs for this season, until a better alternative surfaces.

Great...let him be another team's mistake.

Why would people rather waive Timmy C over Komo?! I know both are train wrecks but Timmy C is far more of an accomplished hockey player then that big, slow, lump--for a lack of a better term, we call Komisarek?

Komo has two years left as well. Buy him out. We will need Timmy C on the PP and as a depth centre. Especially when Bozak goes 20 games without a goal again! Timmy C will step up and play top line minutes.

Lombardi - you can easily waive him, or let him expire at the end of the season. Same goes with Timmy C...just don't re sign him. The big problem we have on our team, the main plug with a contract that doesn't expire within two years is Komisarek....

Let big ole' Komo go...

It was mainly in regards to Connolly/Lombardi. I'd rather wait till summer for Komi in case he has a turnaround season under Carlyle. Buying out him might bite us in the ***. I'm all for buying out Lombardi and Connolly but I don't think it would come to that because I think a team would claim them.

this is ridiculous with all of you wanting to use a buy out this year.

There is absolutely NO REASON to use a buyout this year. Someone sucks? we waive him... the guys you want to buy out all have just this year left except komi. Buy him out in summer if he sucks this year

Gotcha. I'll be honest, I'm on the fence with regards to buying out Komi. In this situation, I'm going to place my trust in Carlyle on this matter. I'm just glad that we have the option.

Carlyle will have the opportunity to choose the 23 best players despite their contract status, and for that I am pleased. Coaches always say this but it's rarely true due the contracts. This time, it's a bit different. All in all, it's good for the Leafs to have a workaround to Komi's NMC going into camp which we didn't have before.

I am actually surprised that we havent waived anyone or dealt yet from a roster setting perspective. considering all the bodies we have up front, I'd rather have Kadri and Frattin playing instead of people like orr and lombardi or tiny tim. I didnt expect big moves from nonis before camp but i thought tinkering was forsure going to happen early.

I don't understand these amnesties. They work like a regular buyout? They couldn't use the NBA system where the amnesty doesn't count against the cap? What horse**** is this?

I would do it just to get rid of Connolly and Lombardi.

Kulemin - Bozak - Kessel
JVR - Grabovski - Frattin
Lupul - Kadri - MacArthur
Brown - McClement - Komarov

I don't like our chances with this lineup. No playoffs again this year I guess. And our D is in even worst shape. :help:

They count on the cap this year, not next year when the cap is going down to ~64 million. The amnesty buyouts are to help teams deal with the reduced cap space next year and going forward.

I don't think Komisarek is eligible for one of these accelerated compliance buyouts. He has to be put on waivers before he can be bought out and his NMC prevents us from putting him on waivers.

If a player you would like to buy out would get hurt you would be stuck with them until they recovered. It is just to ensure that teams can get rid of these dead weight contracts early and not have to worry about them becoming hurt and useless.

I would rather we rid ourselves of Komi now than later.

Why not just waive Lombardi? Either gets picked up or gets sent down to the Marlies.

Well he has to get waived first to be bought out. And I wouldnt want him on the Marlies anyways, we still have a logjam of forwards and I really dont care if he could help them win

Has someone figured out what Luo's cap hit would be, if you bought him out, and signed him to a contract that would pay him in full. Would he lose money if we bought him out in the first place?(If you were to aquire him) I'm sure there's some flaw to my logic. If there is let me know. Thanks

The only logical course of action is to not buy out anyone right now. Leafs are well under the cap, and owe no obligation to any of their players to buy them out. We ride out the season as is, consider Komi in the off season, Lombardi comes off the books, and consider buying out anothe teams ba contract who can't afford it for some extra picks or a prospect. The leafs are in a position of power right now. We have no horrendous long term contracts and we have lots of money to spend for other teams that can't. I'd prefer to retain our ace in the hole than waste it on buying out a contract now.
