“[Rodion] Amirov; we had a follow up with he and the doctors that are managing it from Moscow and Germany.” Said Dubas. “It’s obviously become a more difficult situation to manage in person as things have developed in Europe. So, where he’s at is that he’s through his final round of chemotherapy, and what we’re working on now is a consultation appointment with an immunologist to see if he’s able to travel over here and be around the team to train and participate in on-ice training, and hopefully return to play.

Perhaps a Marlie by the end of the year, if all goes well...

It's smart. The resources the kid would have to train up and practice in Toronto are beyond what he'd get in Russia, and it's not like he'll get prime minutes over there.

Would be great to get him on the Marlies.

I’m always cautious of people just saying get him out of Russia. Yes Russia is not the most ideal place, but there’s lots to consider here. Will his family be able to leave with him? Will he be allowed back entry if he comes over? Or will that mean he’s not able to see his family for the next few years. Coming over to North America isn’t always the best or EASIEST choice for these players. Often times we neglect the other side of it, which is they are people; with families and a life there. I wouldn’t be surprised if he takes his time coming over for that reason. Especially considering he is a young kid who’s fighting cancer, taking him away from his family/support system may put more stress on him.

This is so amazing... and He's in Toronto......

This is so great. Hockey aside it’s great to see him doing well and looking like he is going to recover.
And I’m glad he is out of Russia with everything that is going on there right now. You just couldn’t be sure they would continue to let him leave the country to get treatment.

I'm just happy that he's healthy and doing well. If it works out that he becomes an effective NHL'er, then all the better!

Unfortunately and sadly, two family friends have passed away from brain cancer in the last 6 months. So whenever I hear of word about Amirov, I get a little worried that he may be relapsing, so it's warming every time positive news comes out about him.

If he can come out of this living a long and healthy life, let alone resuming a professional hockey career, it'll not only be encouraging, but also extremely inspiring for others who may be going through the same thing.
