Sieders not over paid. No one's trading fair value.

It's almost 100 million dollars, guaranteed, you'd do it too. You should be asking why did Vancouver offer that?

Like he wouldn’t have gotten an insane contract elsewhere as well?

If he knew at the time that he wants out you’re not going to sign that contract and give the leverage to the team. You won’t extend and force Vancouver to trade you and negotiate with a team you want

Well, I'm not saying he wouldn't of gotten big money somewhere else, but it's a bird in hand vs two in the bush. The contract was on the table for him and it's over 90 million just shy of 100 million.

Kid was mid twenty's, not rich, and just got generational wealth placed Infront of him. FOR MOST... it's an easy choice in a violent sport, in fact, he made the right choice obviously, Vancouver would not re-offer that contract and the way things are going, no he'd likely not get 11.5 million per in the open market this year, just my thoughts.

At the moment they paid for a regular 100 point player and are cashing in on a guy that's looking more near 80-70 points(right now)

When does Miller need to understand he has to mature and back off? oh right, North American player vs European player, if anyone says anything to Miller he will sulk and take more time off if anything is said to him.

Why criticize the GM? They’re paying him $11.6m AAV to have basically been a 70 point player since last calendar year and be a ghost in the playoffs.

Vancouver needs more out of him and the GM is rightfully calling him out. This is the NHL, there are expectations here
Well the GM gave a very soft swede a huge contract. A big part of the blame is on the GM. Everyone knew that 11.6 mil for a soft player is f***ing insane.

and an 8 million dollar contract for a north american asshole who has a history of being a distruption that carries through until he is 37 is a solid hockey move

Legit question, why has EP been getting so much flack for what seems like a couple seasons? Is he lackadaisical or afraid to get dirty?

Also, it seems that Miller is the only constant in this Canucks soap opera. I remember they traded Horvat and kept Miller, why is it now Miller vs Petterson?
He's played with no self confidence for almost a year now, and he needs that even more than most because he'll never have the size to brute-force plays.
He's attentive to all his defensive responsibilities, goes into the corners and around the net just fine. He's still useful out there but rarely a scoring threat. He gets as much or more ice time than JT Miller through all this, so it's not like he's bad. He just doesn't show the panache that allowed him to be one of the top players in the league for a spell. Even with the recent uptick in production that rocket of a shot he's got is a fading memory, as is seeing him deke through opposing players.
The difference between unable and unwilling is ultimately irrelevant on the ice but if he's mechanically fine you can get the psychological side back in the right environment.
Might be in Vancouver, it might not.

The Canucks are always a soap opera, it's the nature of the fan base to get dramatic. We're disturbingly like Leafs fans.

Yeah when you actually have a chance to put pen to paper and close the deal, it is never a bad move to sign.

It s a lot easier to sort out his apparent issues with Vancouver after the fact than to get another comparable offer on the table if things go south.

its hard to get or replace that level of talent in a player. you sign that deal and hope maturity takes care of the little problems. its a risk and so far it hasnt worked out the way the canucks have hoped.

The more I hear about the Canucks drama the more I think of JT Miller as Blake Wheeler. He's not wrong, he's just a dick.
sounds a bit like mackinnon. miller would be great in colorado. maybe the avs try something around middlestadt+

I have been following off ice comments by Pettersson since his second contract signing, he has been consistent in his desire to play on a winner, in the playoffs annually and for the cup.
He has always had a wait and see approach even prior to signing this last one.

It was a series of circumstances that got him to sign when he did.
The team was hot, close to first in the league and management put the pressure on for him to sign and in truth that group did look like they could maintain and improve. Nobody doubts management had been trying to get him signed for months and had the vault door open, that contract probably sat there for 6 months waiting to get him signed.

Allvin's statement could have a few different reasons behind it, no doubt EP is happy
BUT
The coach's desire;
All Euro's playing for Tocchet going back to Arizona have been unhappy, asked for trades or been jettisoned at great cost off his teams. The Nux that year had a great line playing together in EP, Kuz and Mikheyev, they were playing at a #1 line then Tocchet dismantled it and they played all over the place, up and down in the line up with various players, lower icetimes and often criticized for standard issues. Kuz was only a second year player. A quick list, OEL, Kuzmenko, Mikheyev, Zadorov, Podkolzin, Hoglander right now, Gologski, Dvorak, Keller, Hall were either jettisoned or asked for trades. the cost for ridding the team of OEL, 8 years of high buyout costs, Kuzmenko, 1rst, 2nd, AAA RHD prospect, Mikheyev 2 years retention, nothing for Podkolzin and now the last two skilled Euro's Pettersson and Hoglander. Tocchet often refered Zadorov as a 4/5 dman but obviously he wasn't but enough to get fans to accept that 5 mil instead of 4.75 mil was too much and now it comes out they didn't even get around to making an offer, they ran out of time. 4 GMs ran out of time, beleive that?
Maybe Allvin has attached his star to Tocchet and what Tocchet wants hence the drama that now has fans in acceptance of an EP trade.

His mistake of forcing the signing.
There was a fair amount of pressure to get EP to sign this contract when he did, essentially Allvin played on EP's desire to win and he struck when the team was at it's highest. The rumor of a trade and giving EP a deadline to sign or else or be traded to an even stricter task master, Brind'amour to a team without anyone he knew. That would be a strong incentive to sign.

Pettersson's refusal to accept the way the contract is being enforced as bondage and loss of independance. For a player that wants to win forcing him to perform as the key player on a team that regressed as much as this management group has decimated the team might be enough for him.

All Allvin's statements will put any reasoning for a trade on Pettersson not the team and especially not on Tocchet.

I guess any reasoning for this statement could be how it has been viewed, Pettersson being a brat.
Or Allvin choosing to side with Tocchet and Miller.
Nothing very positive for player or team though.

A real axxx move by Alvin. Lowers the players value, publicly shames the player, lowers his self esteem and let's him know This is Miller's teams and Elias is basically a side piece.

Miller will be a nobody in 3 seasons, Petterson will be in his prime years. Classic Canucks
Sounds like EP dug this hole himself and management is trying anything at all to get him going. Who knows how many meetings they've had behind closed doors before they decided to vent to the media

Not rich WTF?

Before he signed the current contract he was going to end his 3rd year making $7.35 million and had career earnings around $25 million.

Also the injury struggles were an issue but he easily would have gotten that kind of money on the open market as revenues and the cap is going up.

When EP gets his troubles sorted out even if he is only a PPG guy his 2 way game still makes his contract okay and with just a slight bump in wingers he can be a 90-100 point guy.

and an 8 million dollar contract for a north american asshole who has a history of being a distruption that carries through until he is 37 is a solid hockey move
Still as a player he has been worth his contract and you really can't dispute that can you?
