Top: Game worn authentic
Bottom: Retail "authentic"
As y0u can see, there's a significant difference with the dimple-pattern on the shoulders. The fabric is a lot thicker as well. Game worn jerseys are made in Canada, retail jerseys are made in Indonesia.
Oddly enough, the text inside the collar seems to have more detail on the retail jerseys.
Another photo to show the dimple pattern. On the top jersey on the right you can see a square mark which is from the tracking chips NHL players have sewn into the jersey. The tracking chip is removed before the jerseys are auctioned off/sold by Fanatics.
Top: Game worn jersey has a smooth nameplate
Bottom: Retail jersey has a more rugged nameplate, and more arched
Top: Game worn jersey has a curved waist, which allows for the fight strap to be tucked in without it pulling down the jersey
Bottom: Retail jersey has a straight waist
Fantastic post and great information! Thank you!
