Kerfoot started to make positive strides once he learned how to be a PKer and a true Swiss army knife player.

(As an aside, the one true thing I will give Keefe credit for is turning players into penalty killers. There weren't enough defensive players acquired for Babcock, but it just seemed like he could only trust Hyman and maybe Marner and wouldn't give anyone else a shot. And that penalty kill was why we lost to Boston in 2019. Keefe turned guys like Kerfoot, Mikheyev and Engvall into penalty killers which was a real positive for this team).

But anyway back on track. Kerfoot was making positive strides until the Tampa series, where he really hurt us in Game 6, also made an absolute boneheaded play on the 3-1 goal in Game 3, but it wasn't as magnified since we won the game.

He's since carried it over to this year and has been a non-factor. It's not good enough. As someone you won't re-sign anyway, i though it would have been smart to swap him in the offseason with a team looking for some more skill. With the hopes to replace him with someone with a little more overall jam.
Keefe is not the PK coach. You wanna credit the correct guy there. That coach is a keeper.

Waste of money and a roster spot. Leafs need to move on from him, he’s giving the team nothing right now.

Should have sold high on him in the summer after a career year. Many people here were calling for that, at minimum, in the off-season. In hindsight the summer was a debacle (sans Samsonov).

1 goal in his last 18 games. 2 goals in his last 19 playoff games.

Crazy the team is still on a 100 pt pace despite us not doing to much in the offseason

Teams been hit by injury bug a lot too

They'll most likely blunder things come playoffs but the teams been finding ways to win despite a weaker team on paper this season

I was going to make this an "appreciation thread" but every time that happens, there are people who criticize the player, then people criticize the people criticizing because it's an appreciation thread so ... go ahead and criticize if you want, no need to have more than one thread per player.

I thought I heard it said on the broadcast last night that Kerfoot leads the Leafs in ES points and I thought what, really? I just looked it up and as of today, he is tied with Matthews and JT - they all have 27 ES points. Holy crap, I am impressed as hell! That's pretty amazing when you consider that he doesn't play with a Marner or a Nylander on his wing so points aren't easy to come by at all. He's also not sacrificing defence to produce points, he leads the team in +- with +18 ahead of Rielly and Brodie who are at +14 and +10 respectively. Yeah I know, +- is not the best stat but still, it adds at least a little bit of context here. Also, those that watched the playoffs might remember that he was one of our players nobody had complaints about, he buzzing around out there on a regular basis and was even second to Nylander in playoffs scoring.

It's funny to read about how we traded Kadri for Barrie, as if Kerfoot isn't even relevant. And now it seems like Kerfoot is always the guy being traded here whenever we talk about where we will find the cap space to pay this guy or that guy. He might be the most underrated and underappreciated player on the team so I just thought I'd give him props.

Alexander Kerfoot is very good at playing hockey, he is a very valuable part of our team and I appreciate having him. That is all.
This thread backfired.

Just run for cover at this point.

No issue with the guy at 1.5. But 3.5 on a cap strapped team? Yikes.

Dubas used to throw around the $3 million+ salary on random guys like it was the new ELC. Kapanen, Johnsson and Kerfoot all got that good middle class money but man were they wrong on each and every one of those duds. (Duds in their own way).

The guy has paced for at least 12g per season every year, he will end up there again. While I agree he was a sell high candidate we don't know what was out there. Same as Engvall. Is the GM in love with guys that don't move the needle much or was the league wide cap too tight?

Its no different than a hot start for the club. The last 20 games are the ones that matter most right?

Calling him a:

"Jack of all Trades/Swiss Army Knife"

seems like a really polite way of saying:

"He's been here for 4 years and we can't figure out what he's good at"
He's very good at c***b***ck (rooster blocking) Marlies from having a chance to show their stuff!

Good news is that he's a UFA and the oilers probably give him a 5 year 4-5 mill dollar contact next season

Is there even such thing as a sell high in this current cap world?

More like get a mid round pick and nothing else back. I understand why we kept him/didn’t really make moves.

That being said, I also want him gone.

Middle line up players who have a poor history with the team should be cleaned out year over year.

The Kerfoot spot is a prime spot we can use to really add another element to this line up.

I believe Kerfoot is only owed 750k in real dollars this year, even a rebuilding side with space could've taken Kerfoot only to dump at the deadline.

Dubas doesn't realize at this point an extra 3.5m was more valuable to this club in the off-season than retaining the player. But hey, run it back.

The Disappointment Line:

Kerfoot-Engvall-Jarnkrok

u probably think its funny but ideally they should put that line back together ,
its by far the most effective 3rd line we had all year and had + 52% xgoals and one of the best xg per 60 setup on the team.

I want to start by saying that he is indeed an NHL player.....that being said, it was understandable that he was always going to be the least skilled player on a 1st or 2nd line, based on our team makeup but he was always a bad fit due to the fact that he is small, soft and not one of our "skill players".

The fact that he can't make an impact on our bottom 2 lines just goes to show how "plain" he is as a player and has no fit on this roster......hard to see where he would fit on a contending team. He is good enough to play multiple roles on a bottom feeder.
