All things Alexander Kerfoot

Safe to say he won't be playing centre going forward barring injury. He's even better value than that (3C) as a top six winger though. I imagine his (future) situation with the team will be linked with where he ultimately slots into the lineup for the majority of the time.

Kerfoot has been great this year but the trade was terrible.
There really wasn't anything fine about it.

The trade was fine but as I said, we've been over this many times already so no need to do it all over again.

Kerfoot has been having a great year, a year that his underlying metrics don't support and therefore we will see him return to normal, his normal isn't worth $3.5 mil.

I give him a 7.5 / 10. Solid B+. The Kampf signing allowed Kerfoot to get a more sheltered role as a side kick winger. Kampf fills the void of what Kerfoot lacked as a shutdown C so took that responsibility away from Kerfoot.

The goal pace is unacceptable given he's in our top 6. Key word our. There's a lot of guys in the world who would put up 30 goals there for the same cap hit or less, so B+ for me. Get that goal pace to at least 15 and I'll send the missing 0.5

whoa 30 I meant 20

I mean they could have exposed Holl and kept both Kerfoot and McCann so...... Yeah
Why?

I mean....how do you replace a 4/5 D for $2 million with term? Keeping both McCann and Kerfoot also means means you have $1 million less to spend on D and have to blow up the team to make the cap work.

It worked out perfectly. Some people act like the cap doesn't exist in their fairy tale worlds....

He’s been such a stud this year, does so much away from the puck. Definitely our most under-appreciated player. Carried over his play from the last playoffs

Ridiculous though. McCann plays top line minutes, top PP minutes and wouldn't nearly have the production here as a 3rd line C.

Kerfoot with almost zero PP time is actually out producing McCann.

Same with Kadri. Mack has been injured a lot and Kadri is playing 1C a lot. As well as topp PP time with Rantanen, Makar, and Landeskog.

He is having a fantastic year but his numbers would be nowhere close to where they are if he was 3rd C here.

Oh man, imagine how people like you would act if Dubas entered into the season with Evan Rodrigues as his 2nd line LW instead of Kerfoot. Guys like that are good stories that come out of nowhere. Not people you plan to rely on for numerous roles like we do with Kerfoot

See Matt Moulson

I have posted about this many times. Kerfoot gave us cost certainty for next season, McCann had Arb right and a QO of 3.38.
If he became what everyone believed he would playing for us we wouldn't be able to afford him this summer.

Then who plays defence for the team?

Having a rookie like Lily as the teams #2 rhd wouldn't be an optimal situation
I don't recall any trade or signing freezes after the expansion draft.
Holl is a borderline bottom pair player. You must have some faith left in the GM that he could have found a replacement.

What if Seattle had chose Kerfoot instead?

McCann plays for the Kraken.

What makes you think a shoot first player like McCann can't pace 30 goals if he played beside JT and Nylander?

We have no idea what McCann would have done here but he does have a skillset that would out point Kerfoot in the same role here. You're looking at 200+ (that's a bit too high let's tone it down 150-200) shots from McCann if he's in our top 6. Dubas had his eyes on Kampf for a while. McCann wouldn't be 3C.

Last night he was a game changer .. in fact he changed game in 3rd by himself with his blasts of SPEED .. best 3rd period i have ever seen him play since Habs series .. without Kerfoot maybe maybe we get a tie
