I was going to make this an "appreciation thread" but every time that happens, there are people who criticize the player, then people criticize the people criticizing because it's an appreciation thread so ... go ahead and criticize if you want, no need to have more than one thread per player.

I thought I heard it said on the broadcast last night that Kerfoot leads the Leafs in ES points and I thought what, really? I just looked it up and as of today, he is tied with Matthews and JT - they all have 27 ES points. Holy crap, I am impressed as hell! That's pretty amazing when you consider that he doesn't play with a Marner or a Nylander on his wing so points aren't easy to come by at all. He's also not sacrificing defence to produce points, he leads the team in +- with +18 ahead of Rielly and Brodie who are at +14 and +10 respectively. Yeah I know, +- is not the best stat but still, it adds at least a little bit of context here. Also, those that watched the playoffs might remember that he was one of our players nobody had complaints about, he buzzing around out there on a regular basis and was even second to Nylander in playoffs scoring.

It's funny to read about how we traded Kadri for Barrie, as if Kerfoot isn't even relevant. And now it seems like Kerfoot is always the guy being traded here whenever we talk about where we will find the cap space to pay this guy or that guy. He might be the most underrated and underappreciated player on the team so I just thought I'd give him props.

Alexander Kerfoot is very good at playing hockey, he is a very valuable part of our team and I appreciate having him. That is all.

Good middle 6 forward that can play LW/C...no points on PP this year since they took him off which makes it even more impressive.

:rolleyes::rolleyes: i wonder how awesome people are going to think kadri is next year when some stupid team gives him 9 mil and he reverts back to being a sub 60 point player.

I agree with most of your posts Gary, but ehhhhhhhh i don't know about this one ;)

That's fine and I get he's having a great season. But he got suspended for us in the playoffs, then he did it again in the playoffs and to me, it was pretty clear he had to go. So many people were saying no way he's dumb enough to do it again, but then he did do it again. Then those same people were saying that no way he'll do it a third time and then of course he did do it again for that 3rd time, this time for Colorado and that's why in the past playoffs Kadri only had one point while Kerfoot had 6. I do like Kadri though, if we don't win the cup this spring then I hope he does.

He was my favourite player for years but IMO he had to go and Dubas got a pretty good return for him under the circumstances. But anyhow, regardless of whether one likes that trade or not, Kerfoot is a helluva player.

Trade him while his value is high IMO.

His underlying numbers aren't great, and the Tavares+Nylander duo do better without him than with him.
With how much he is over performing his play this year you can probably get a good return for him.

My *hope* is you can convince a team like Chicago to send over a Hagel type. A guy who is doing just as much every game to help his team win as Kerfoot, but costs 2m less against the cap each season.

They may see him as a more offensive player and see that as better than having a guy who is a better forechecker and defensive player.

Kerfoot has 29p in 40 games, Hagel has 24 in 38. Kerfoot can play C, Hagel is exclusively a winger.

Yup. Kadri will have a soft spot for me but he can blame himself for the trade. Dubas finds a way to keep him if he controlled his behaviour.

I mean, that’s not true - Kerfoot/Tavares/Nylander has been the 2nd line pretty much all season long, he absolutely does play with Nylander.

Otherwise I agree, he’s been great. Great motor, lots of speed, quality 2 way player. He’s been very good, having the best season of his career (to date).

Kerfoot is a good player. That kadri trade will look bad in hindsight but dubas did salvage it from being a total bust by getting kerfoot. Imagine it was kadri for Barrie 1for 1 in a sign and trade situation..

Not getting into the Kadri trade, Kerfoot is the #5 forward on this team & #8 player, until/if Muzzin figures things out. Even though he's small, he might be their best forechecker.

He elevated his game towards the end of last season, again in the playoffs & this season. He's a much more effective player now than he was when he arrived, he's a key difference maker now; losing him would be noticeable.

On a team like the Leafs he'll have an "Appreciation" thread simply because of the players surrounding him.

Imagine Kerfoot on a team like Seattle (I'm using that team intentionally).

The guy is vanilla, maybe the Madagascar variety but still vanilla and nowhere near the player Kadri is.

I haven't kept good track of how much he's played on what line but I'll assume you're right. But yeah even with that, he's been great. If someone tole me before the season started that halfway through the season, nobody on our team would have more ES points than Kerfoot at this point I would have said no f***ing way.

If he gets a point VS NJ tomorrow, and he might because at last check both Blackwood and Bernier were hurt which means will get NJ's 3rd and 4th string goalie.

IF Kerfoot gets a point tomorrow he will be on pace for 60 points.

Now if he were to hit that you have to wonder if they could get a 1st for him this summer?

I say that because Kerfoot seems like a guy that's likely getting moved this summer regardless if they can move Marazek or not.

I'd like to be wrong, I like Kerfoot but if he has to go, his value will never be higher

I'll offer my appreciation for Kerfoot in here anyway.
My only issue with him initially was a bit of a discipline issue but he looks to have that sorted out.

I'm all for giving Kerfoot appreciation this season, he's been great. Pretty much perfect in his role as versatile utility winger. Keep it at that.

If anyone wants to go even further and suggest we're better off with Kerfoot than Kadri.....that is where the line gets drawn for me. Team Kadri all day.
