Olympics: All-Star Team & Tournament Awards | MVP: Selänne

I don't mind Selanne as MVP his was a great story line and he put his team on his back and went as far as he could.

Kessel on the other hand scored a bunch of early tourny goals and then absolutely **** the bed in the only two games that really mattered. If it wasn't for Oshie in the SO the States wouldn't have even done anything.
Give me a break. Kessel was as shut down as anyone against Canada. That doesn't exactly take away from his tournament. And let's face it there are always teams that don't feel like the Bronze medal game matters and don't get up for it.

Good luck arguing that the forward leading the tournament in points is an out there choice for the award. This wasn't a tournament that the results were dominated by elite forwards. Canada won through team defence so none of their forwards were up there for that award.

They are just awards for individuals who stood out in the tournament. Not the end of the world.

Okay, so Selanne got MVP and we should all be happy.

You are in the gold medal game. You have players that are equal to the other team's players exactly, and you can choose to upgrade one of them to Crosby, Toews, Doughty or Selanne according to how they performed in this tourney.

Who do you pick?

Sorry I am not like the other apologetic Canadians trying to kiss your collective *****. I have to say what I think.

How can anyone say with a straight face that Price is the MVP? All he had to do was stop a bunch of wrist shots from the blue line.

Like Quick in the bronze medal game? :sarcasm:

I also get a kick out of the "Karlsson wasn't on for a goal against all tourny!" - Well his goaltender had a 951 SV% and he doesn't kill penalties so there was a good chance he wasn't going to be on the ice for a goal against just out of coincidence alone. He wasn't the best defenseman in the tourny, Doughty was a ton better.

Karlsson over MacDonagh, Doughty, Weber, Vlasic, and Pietrangelo? LOL.

As someone who watched all of both teams games, how the hell was he a ton better. If you think he was better, that's your opinion but to say he was a tin better or clearly better is so far from the truth. They both had great tournaments and it would have been the right choice whether Karlsson or Doughty won it.

You actually think McDonagh, vlasic or Pietrangelo were better?

Not much of a surprise that most who have a problems with Karlsson getting best D are leafs or Habs fans.

Selanne was the best forward in a very low scoring tournament. And no, the invisible man doesn't count. Points made in the playoff phase are worth more and than points made in the preliminary games.

Karlsson is a tire fire defensively, he has absolutely no idea what to do when the puck isn't on his stick. Doughty made very few mistakes defensively (he made a couple) and controlled the play just as much as Karlsson did making his performance a ton better in my eyes.

But you're entitled to believe your favourite rover is a world class defenseman if you like and I'll believe what I like.

I'll continue to believe so, along without the rest of the hockey world. Just don't get upset when he wins awards.

Price was better than Lundqvist in my opinion but Canada's defence made things pretty easy for him. Best goaltender could have gone either way (and did).

The other choices were absolutely the right ones. Doughty and Karlsson were outstanding. Weber was also exceptional but I'd give the edge to the former two. Kessel was a machine in the preliminary round while Selanne led a team that many wrote off (as least of HFBoards) at the beginning of the tournament as being vastly inferior to the likes of Canada, US, Russia, and Sweden. As for Granlund, he shone as he filled in for the numerous Finnish injuries at centre.

Selanne was the deserving choice of MVP in this tournament. He captained Finland who had been decimated with injuries including the loss of Rask for a game. Two goals in the bronze medal game was a statement of his deservingness and this is absolutely the right choice.

Finland's offensive lives and dies with Selanne in this tournament - even though Granlund delivered when needed he was still very, very green and I actually somewhat question his presence in that all-star team. The two of them were the beacon of that offensive corps and then you had guys like Immonen, Lehterä and Korpikoski as the third wheel for that line, which is somewhat telling.

This team doing this well in spite of not having 3 of our 5 top forwards in the roster (Koivu,Filppula,Barkov) is un-f***ing-believable, and still, somehow, they pulled it off. Without Teemu, Finland doesn't beat Russia or USA on the bronze game. No other player had such an important role to play for a team as Teemu did. Hence I feel the recognition was well-deserved.

I haven't seen Anze Kopitar being mentioned here. (Or?)
Slovakia did their best tournament ever, and won two games in the tournament. They held 0-1 for a long time in the quarter final vs Sweden.
Grabner helped Austria and is well worth mentioning. But shouldn't Kopitar at least get a mentioning, at least if looking at the single player who meant most to his team (counting all the teams)?

crosby and toews did not even deserve to be in the discussion, doughty has a good case. it's idiotic to make the award based on if you win the tournament or not:help:

And Subban is so bad defensively that his offense doesn't make up for it.

You are much bigger whiner than Selanne will ever be. Give the guy a break.. he is over 40 yo and to be able to play on this lvl still is something you will never understand. Also Selanne was 6th i believe in points.. scored 2 in bronze game..

Yeah, Yeah, I heard Ad Nauseam he's 43, it's his last OG...blah blah blah...cry me a river

SO let's give That Whiner Selanne the SYMPATHY VOTE cause he's older than everybody else ? :sarcasm:

Shouldn't be any Age Handicapping, MVP should go to a guy who had the most profoundly positive impact on tourney + his team

Like leading a D, or backstopping a team ( DD or Price ) that had the fewest goals against in Modern Day Tourney History + Helped them go undefeated & win Gold

Canada had one of OG's Most Dominant Teams EVER, yet all star + MVP is dominated by Euros?
