If they get anything for Faulk it’ll be similar to what Braun got. Not terrific asset management, but maybe necessary to relieve the logjam back there.

First of all, I think the return on Braun was exceptional for San Jose. Those two picks (a second and a third) are probably worth a mid-to-late first-rounder. Secondly, Faulk is more valuable in every way. And third, there's always the possibility that another team has a similar player and the deal just matches up. Minny really *has* to trade Zucker at this point. I don't know how he can be back there after being almost traded twice. Maybe that's a fit?

If the GMs read our board they wouldnt trade a used puck bag for Faulk.

Edit: And yeah SJ got basically what the Canes got for Skinner minus an extra late pick and Pu. That’s incredible.

I don't think the Canes HAVE to trade Faulk at all. Asset management wise, sure, you want to move an expiring contract for something. But if it's a small return, just keep him, and let him help you win in 19-20. A year of Faulk is worth a 2nd round pick easily for a team hoping to contend.

With the other two, the Canes didn't want Jeff Skinner on the team. San Jose needed to move a salary after giving Karlsson a billion dollars with Braun. So they had to take what they could get.

I think we'll see a good return for Faulk, or he'll just stay. Doesn't feel like a 'settle for a 2nd and a B prospect' situation.

The way that defensemen are getting signed before free agency there are pretty slim pickings if you look forward. Faulk would absolutely be one of the best options for teams that need help. That's why I think the return on Faulk would be better than expected. I don't really want to see him go but I really want the forum to stop complaining about his very existence so I hope he is moved.

Faulk May have been our best all around defenseman in the playoffs and in our top three this year...it’s open for debate. However, even if you assign the most optimistic assessments to his play this year, who here wants to give him a six to eight year contract with the way his skating has deteriorated over the last three years? We’d be looking to buy him out of some of those years at the end of a contract of those lengths.

4 years, 24 million. Not a penny more, not a year more. Otherwise we can trade him for what should be a decent return and let the Jake Bean era begin.

Canes should be all over Kadri if he is moving. 30 goal scoring center who plays hard. Makes $4.5 million. Canes would be hard pressed to find a better fit. Kadri's suspensions concern me zero.

Cap number may be known today as well

What center are the Canes sending back for Kadri? Kadri isn't worth giving up on Necas, and Wallmark would need a major +.

Wallmark + Faulk + pick? Is that enough, and would Toronto consider it? It doesn't immediately alleviate TOR's cap crunch to take back Faulk (or Pesce if that were a possibility.)

I think Kadri would be a perfect fit. Definitely a jerk so he’d fit right in.

I like him a lot. His suspensions are a real concern though, as is his offensive dropoff. Could be an isolated 'bad' year, but could also be the start of a trend. He's almost 29 and is not particularly big, but plays a more physical game than most. He could be one of those guys that drops way off at 30.

Recent contracts comparable to Faulk's situation:

Cam Fowler $6.5 million x 8 years - Modified NTC (4 team accepted trade list)
Kevin Shattenkirk $6.65 million x 4 years - Modified NTC (8-10 team no trade list)
Ryan McDonagh $6.75 million x 7 year - Full NTC until year 2025-26
Nate Schmidt $5.95 million x 6 years - Modified NTC (10 team no trade list)
Esa Lindell $5.8 million x 6 years - Bought a couple RFA years - Full NMC for years 3-6

I'm not interested in giving Faulk any of those deals
