Every team is one goaltending slump away from getting bounced against any other team in the playoffs. No need to sweat it.
Good plan. Let’s relax and wait for a goalie slump.

Or hey - any team could suffer and injury to a key player - fingers crossed MacKinnon rolls an ankle.

Yeah, Colorado just got way better

Colorado got so much better in the last hour. And we know how tough Dallas is (and they’ve added tanev). And we just saw Edmonton & Vegas make some not-so-insignificant adds of their own. The west just got way tougher, and specifically Colorado. Candidly, I’m not sure we get past Colorado or Dallas with our current roster, and we inevitably will have to play one (or both) of those teams to make meaningful noise.

He won't waive to come here so no point in speculating about him.

Yeah I don’t think this is going to happen. But there are other good options out there that would suffice to upgrade our roster to give ourselves the power needed to match some of these western teams that just got way better.

The recipe is:

1) Get goalies with positive GSAx rates over the long term
2) Make sure that #1 is taken care of before proceeding any further
3) Employ a coach with solid systems in place
4) Have at least some scoring power on the team
5) Hope and pray for a lucky break in the playoffs.

You should never need to go all-in, because best-of-seven series are too luck-based. You can't outrun even the shortest streak of bad luck over seven games, so you should never bet the farm on a single run. Just make sure that the team is solid enough that it can win series where neither team gets lucky or unlucky, and then it's up to higher powers from there on out. It ain't science, for the most part. It's luck.

Our team massively checks out points 1-3, and we have scoring talent, hidden or otherwise. We're good enough to give this one a go.

Another winger isn't going to do much imo. We could use a D upgrade and potentially another plus center imo.

i don't mind NTC NMC

but for every f***ing player it is annoying AF

the elites of the world, sure yes they can have a say on where they go. or have a max amount per team or some shit.

but for 30+ year old Tarasenko - who is a still a good player - why
Yeah, the NHLPA will never let it happen but the NHL needs to either limit the number of NTCs a team can have or just make them full no movement — no waiving, no limited number of teams. Otherwise markets like Winnipeg will always, always get shafted.

Welp - unless something changes we are all in for step 5.

Good post!
