It's basically a new-ish event, the brainchild of Roger Federer, I think. In the grand scheme of things, it has little significance beyond itself, but the players do take it extremely seriously. So there is an outside chance that it could become tennis' Riders Cup. That's less likely if there continue to be blowouts like this 14-1 shellacking. Good for Team Europe but bad for the Laver Cup.Is this tournament worth anything? Or more of a charity/PR thing?
Ah I see. Personally I can't really get into it.It's basically a new-ish event, the brainchild of Roger Federer, I think. I don't know where she'll end up over the next few years but the last 18 months aren't a good barometer for a lot of players. It will be interesting to see how everything shakes out once there is a normal schedule.Andreescu loses to Rogers in straight sets. She could easily see herself around 40th or lower by end of the year if she goes out early in Indian wells, which is pretty much the level she’s been playing at for awhile
I agree. Andreescu played pretty damn good tennis agaisnt Rogers. So credit to Rogers for being the better player on the day. But Bianca's performance that day doesn't suggest there is any cause for rash conclusions.I don't know where she'll end up over the next few years but the last 18 months aren't a good barometer for a lot of players. It’s not about her tennis against Rogers, it’s about the last year. The injuries have obviously slowed her down but you can’t deny how bad she’s beenI agree. Kim Clijsters is mounting her second comeback at 38 years of age and it seems terribly ill-conceived. She lost her fifth consecutive match, this time to an on-again, off-again Siniakova in three one-sided sets, 6-1, 2-6, 6-1. Kim still has lovely strokes but she is horrible out of shape and often struggles to cover the court or change direction. Not fun to watch.
It will be interesting to see how their careers work out. I think she's much tougher than most players. I can also see Emma being a one slam wonder.Leylah made quite the contrast with Emma. It may be illusory but Fernandez seems almost impervious to nerves because she is so mindboglingly focused.
