I love McGroarty. I honestly thought he was a dud of a pick that high in the first and his skating would’ve impacted his game by the college level, but he’s just continued to produce regardless.

Something about his character, personality and on ice demeanour just scream to me that he’s going to make an impact. I think he’s gonna be like Andrew Copp on steroids and be the Jets captain one day

Slaggert wasn’t drafted by Davidson, but Slaggert plays the type of game Davidson envisions for his team in the future. Slaggert skates well, is hard on the forecheck, is reliable in all zones and is constantly moving. As he showed this season, there is some offense in his game, too.

My 2023 Draft Review after a year?

Bedard - Lol
Moore - B+/A
Gajan - B
Kantserov - B+/A
Misiak - D
Lardis - A
Felcman - Incomplete? I don't know shit about prospects playing NL and SL. Would have preferred both of the players taken after him so not my favorite.
Pharand - D.
Marcel Marcel - D
Milton Oscarson + Janne Peltonen - Fine. Can't hate on 6th and 7th rounder nothing swings.

Not a bad grade. I only have a few ones I disagree with.

Misiak a bit too low, never been a huge scorer in any level, I get not liking the pick but I wouldn't say the season has been too much worse than expected. We'll get him in Rockford and see if he can be a future NHL low 2nd line/high 3rd line, which is probably his upside.

Lardis a bit too high. He's a good junior scorer but we knew that when he got traded off a team competing for a championship to play 1st line on a bad team in his draft year. His production is actually a bit down from his Hamilton-only production from last season. Again, get liking the pick on draft day, but nothing since jumps out to say he's really outperforming his draft ranking. Hopefully he can get back healthy and compete for a team Canada spot at the next world juniors.

Marcel, idk I didn't have much higher expectations for a late 03 5th round power forward that plays a heavy game. I didn't really think he'd be AHL ready at the moment. For a guy like that, NCAA would be a better route than playing in the Q as an import player, but for Czechs that's probably a bit complicated as there is the school component. Hawks may sign him to another AHL deal and punt off the ELC another year (technically then he could become free agent, but there wouldn't be much of a market). If he's going to make it in the NHL, it would certainly be a while.

Ak Bars Kazan's season is over. Eliminated 4 games to 1 in the 1st round of the KHL playoffs.

Ilya Safonov is under contract for one more season, moved from 2nd line to 3rd line this season but by the postseason (maybe due to injury, not sure) was on a line at even strength with Radulov. Turns 23 on May 30th, and so will be 24 following the end of next season, and he/the Hawks will have to decide if it makes sense for him to come over. He may only do so if he thinks there's a spot for him, but hopefully he will at least give North America a one year try and see how it goes.

Only a 6th round pick back in 2021 so not a ton of invested capital there.

I gave Lardis an A because of taking his draft position into account. Before injury he was 2nd in the OHL in goals/g I believe, behind Rehkopf. I also liked some of his games I saw this year, driving the middle of the ice better and trying to be less perimeter.

Well I didn't have high expectations either which is why I would prefer taking some Russians or a guy like Pohlkamp going to college. I just don't see the value in the selection. Similar to Pharand I'd rather them take a swing on Rykov at that pick like Carolina did.

The upside of a guy like Marcel is a couple dozen guys you could draft as UDFA's. You don't choke up down 0-2 in the count that late you swing for the fences.
If and it's a big If the guy can hit on a consistent basis he could be a huge piece of the winning puzzle. He can handle the puck skate like hell and is a monster . When he hits he hurts . But someone can get through to him he wont be able to just glide around and play in the NHL.

Our Boy Frankie again disappears from the scoring sheet and -1 with just 1 shot on goal generated..Over last 11-12 games he has fallen off a cliff with a lotvof no shows in the Michigan scoring party..Michigan beats ND 5-4but Frankie fails again.

I either think he has lost interest in colkege hockey and is looking forward to turn pro...OR hexteyley is not "ready" to do much forctge Hawks next season if he turns pro.
Off this recent decline over last 10--11(12?) Games his production has plummeted...so "star" emerging gthat we thought before this decline may have been a mirage ..ok Michigan has not needed him to win some games..But still we thought he might realky have the talent to imoact with the Hawks ...yet he goes through thisxkibg stretch where he is not doing much..not generating many shots on goal ...hard to score ifvyou cannotcdo that. And thec assists also in decline.

Frankly ...he has disappointed gin his recent play over this last 11 games or so.. too.many mon-impactful games from him.

Given this...KD should tell him...return to Michigan next season.

So is Nazar hurt or just not as good as we'd hoped? Might not even crack a point a game this season and is really falling behind McGroarty and Brindley statistically, its not like he doesnt have help. Also weird that he's a -6 when most forwards are pluses and Rutger and Brindley are like +20

We NEED an impact top line forward from this year's draft.
